tanktop and yoga pants usually... unless it gets really hot (my gym has no aircon) so then yoga shorts and a backless tanktop.

some women go in there with the sexiest workout clothes on. The icing on the cake is when they are actually in there to demolish their bodies, therefore you wont find them conversing the whole time because they have that hole "in the zone" attitude about them, where it looks like they will punch you in the face if you say hi.... god thats sexy
I just wear normal shorts, but I have to have a sleeveless shirt! sleeves make me feel restricted.. I also prefer the shirt to be fitted

basics...
Legs day - stretchy yoga pants and tank top, upper body day - tank top and either yoga pants or some form of baggy shorts. I have a stack of black tank tops and make the joke that in order to be a "bad a$$" you should have enough of them so that you never run out regardless of the circumstances - its a little silly joke I thought off while watching any Sci-Fi themed Vin Diesel movie... he NEVER runs out of black tank tops - that MUST be the secret!!!!!

I always wear capri yoga pants and a ribbed tank [usually my bodybuilding.com one!!!] I don't feel comfortable enough to wear shorts and I get too hot in regular pants, so the capris are breathable and comfortable - a nice combination of everything I need.
If you have it and you're comfortable though, go for the shorts. I get weird sometimes when I'm getting checked out, but at least they'll all be staring for a GOOD reason!

It just makes me appreciate my body a lot more when I'm not wearing clothes that make me feel less feminine.
In regard to the comment about who I would take more seriously, it doesn't come down to the clothing. I'm going to respect the girl who is busting her ass and making an honest effort to improve her body, regardless of what she's wearing.
My gym attire always consists of spandex shorts with a pair soffee shorts thrown over them and a feminine sport's tank.

I totally agree with this. I wear the shortest shorts that I can and a tiny tank top. I hate baggy clothes and like the feeling of wearing next to nothing. I love seeing all of my toned muscles in the mirror while I'm working. I lfft heavy and often and I've never had any complaints about my attire

Personally, I don't give a crap who takes me serious...what matters come competition day is what those judges on the panel think~yet most importantly, what the person staring back at me in the mirror thinks.
The clothing does not determine the athlete. The drive and passion does.
And the way I see it, I bust my ass every day of my life, lifting weights up to 1MR and I am EXTREMELY committed to my diet. I LOVE the way my body looks and I have earned the right to wear whatever the hell I want.
This is what you'll see me at the gym in:
|
I am not in the shape I want to be in (yet) but I just had to say that I agree with the sentiment of this message...
I wear what I want to wear and don't really think about what others think about me, although obviously it has crossed my mind. I don't like baggy clothes to work out in as I don't feel that I can move in them and they make me feel really hot. I like wearing sleevless tops (like wifebeaters) and tight black aerobic trousers. On hot days I wear short tops which show my abs, but as long as I am as cool as possible I don't mind.
I do get stares sometimes, but then I also get other women tell me that I am looking in good shape and that they've noticed my progress (I am cutting for my first comp at the moment), so it can also be motivating from that respect.

At home I wear basketball shorts and cheap tank tops....
At the gym I wear workout pants (aka "slickies") and a baggy tshirt. If I wear anything else then I get weird looks from some females and hit on from men. When Im working out leave me the he!! alone! HAHA....
I think what you wear will draw attentioin....ever notice the really huge guys in the gym always wear long sleeves and pants? No need to show off when you got it all!

in summer I always find that the clothes I leave the gym in are a lot skimpier than my running shorts and singlet/tshirt.

When DH was able to buy me an expensive (to us, more than $100 is expensive) gift, I asked for a home gym. I have a weight bench, racks, etc. I do free weights.
Since it's my garage and no one can see me, I will do weights wearing sport bra and baggy cotton shorts (easier to squat). If I'm running, I'm wearing a dri-fit t-shirt and running shorts (also somewhat baggy).
I really love the privacy of my own workout world. It's a lot more comfortable for me to lift wearing just the sport bra for my top. It's hot out there, too!
I got tired of weird people hitting on me in the gym, in SPITE of the large titanium wedding band. If I wanted to "Play" I'd to go a club.
I love the clarity of working out at home, whenever I want to. It's awesome. DH is good for a spot, too.

I wear whatever I can find now, but when I get the way I REALLY want to be, I'm gonna wear tight shorts and a sports bra to show off my legs, abs, and arms!

The more weight I lose and muscle I gain the less clothes I wear! When I first started I wore a big t-shirt and long pants. Now I wear a fitted wife beater and knee length shorts. Still not happy w/the legs..one day! I'm proud of the progress I've made and it feels good to see my muscles in the mirror when I lift!

When I'm in yoga or kickboxing classes at the gym my fashion side comes out so I will wear some of the more funkier Brazilian styles. Most fitness fashion seems plain Jane to me, functional, but boring. I do like a lot of the styles I see the fitness models wearing in Oxygen, Fitness, and Shape magazines, although I'm not the type to show off my stomach. I just bought these Margarita pants recently and I likey https://www.fitnessetc.com/catalog/AF-MG501.htm I'm in love with fashion in my regular life tho.
But if I'm doing weights at the gym, I'm in my regular Nike get-up: long pants (black, navy, grey, black with a white line...you get the idea sort of a yawner) and a t-shirt that's just a little more colorful.
I never wear shorts and would only consider it if doing cardio but I've never found a pair that fits me well. I have been looking for one of those 70s style ones (think roller derby girls) so I can wear when rollerblading and I found some at American Apparel, but they were just a little too short for my taste. http://store.americanapparel.net/7301.html#i ....so the hunt goes on

I usually wear short with compresion shorts because I don't like whne the short ride up when I'm doing abs or legs. and a tank top or a hanes white t shirt. I don't like to show to much. like to keep it simple.

I wear loose tank top with colored sports bra, shorts with built in undies so
no can look up my shorts. And yes they will.
When I loose some weight I would like to wear tighter clothes. But not today,
perhaps it will be a goal.

i'm not ashamed of wearing a sports bra and short shorts; granted i'm young but i've worked to get my body where i want it and people can be offended; they can be vial; or they can admire it but either way i'm happy and i'm in the zone regardless. wear what your comfortable in and what you want.

I'm sure if I showed up at your gym, the clothing that I wear-you wouldn't take me seriously....till you saw me work out.

I found this website by googling "is it inappropriate to wear a sports bra to the gym". I usually wear a sports bra and loose sweat pants to the gym. I go with my fiancee usually and he doesn't mind. I do however, live in Utah which is a pretty conservative state. I am perfectly comfortable in what I work out in. I am fairly thin and small chested. I do not want to make other people uncomfortable which is why I googled the topic. I like seeing my ab muscles contract and work when I am working them out. It makes me want to push myself harder and it also makes me see how amazing the body is when I can see my muscles in the mirror. ? That might sound odd? But from what I am hearing is that most ppl find it offensive?

I was given some Under Armour work out clothes for Christmas and I can't believe how amazing they are to work out in. The shirts don't hold sweat and get heavy like a regular cotton t-shirt. So much more comfortable. I always thought the ppl who wore those "special" workout clothes were ridiculous, but now I am a believer.
