Shrugs

Needed or not needed?

I do trap bar deadlifts and hack squats. I feel works my traps plenty. Most people do deads and sldls.'

do you feel shrugs are needed as extra?

do you do any exercises to work your traps specifically?
just deadlifts and hack squats would not really be enough alone.

u dont need to do them

Just having the barbell on ur traps doing BB squats will give you more meat.

deadlifts have given many pros great upper traps, but the traps also fan down between the shoulder blades. If this area is weak bent over rows with arms flared out would help. but shrugs serve mainly to build the upper traps and hard deadlifting will give you plenty of stimulus.

Those exercises work the traps indirectly, but if you feel they're too small/weak then throw in some shrugs.

Personally I rarely do shrugs as I have good traps naturally.

wat???????

anyway,
If your traps are growing from doing BB hacks and deads, you don't need to do shrugs...but...

most people will not reach full potential without doing a direct trap exercise, such as BB shrugs or DB shrugs. BB hacks do hit them pretty hard, but IMO it isn't enough. Throw 2-3 sets of shrugs in, on either back or shoulder day depending on how close together they are and how tired you are after back day.
