Is this true?
Is this true? My dietician told me that it doesn't matter what you eat (protein, carbs, or fat) because when you gain weight it will first turn to fat and through lifting, you will turn the fat to muscle. If that is true, then as long as you get enough calories and spend the time lifting why bother with protein shakes and limiting fat etc?

Because she is wrong and you should run, fast and hard, away from this person.
I cannot eat McDonalds at the same calorie level as I consume now and get anywhere near the same results. Our bodies need different nutrients for different functions. It's appalling this person calls themselves a nutritionist.

WHAT?!?!?! Dump the nutritionist fast! I would question anything this person tells you after that advice. There is no such thing as turning the fat into muscle, they are too separate things and if you eat the wrong things, you will gain fat instead of muscle. Trust me, I am trying to gain some muscle right now and if I slip in my clean eating and eat too much junk, it shows up when I have my BF analysis done that I gained more fat than muscle. The key is to gain as much muscle as possible with very little fat.

I know, I thought the same thing! Maybe because I am at a lower body weight? But I do kind of understand what she is saying to a point. The amount of calories I waste on cheat foods (ice cream/ cookies/ brownies) each week has not shown in body fat at all... but once again, maybe that is because I do not eat enough for the amount of exercise I do.

You can't turn Fat into Muscle - that impossible!
just like can't turn Muscle into Fat!
You can build muscle and burn fat
or you can lose muscle and fat

Exactly! I'd say you need a new dietitian since she doesn't seem to have her facts straight.

Where did your dietician go to college? You can't turn fat into muscle...you can store anything as fat then you burn the fat off...but there is no biological equation that goes from Fat to Muscle anywhere.

Think about it though, a lot of people prescribe to this way of thinking! I've got friends that are dr's and they try and give me diet and or exercise advice and it really makes me cringe.... A lot of people do believe that a calorie is a calorie, and that you could still lose weight on McD's if you manage to stay under your daily BMR (I don't know where a double whopper fits into my macros at the moment).... It baffles the hell out of me.....
Could she have meant that you needed to add fat to gain muscle? Maybe she was talking about having you do a bulking phase? Had she been drinking? Scary...

Yep it's like the old thing of muscle weighs twice as much as fat....
impossible right! Right!
but what they really mean is that fat occupies twice as much space as muscle so if you take the same amount of fat in volume and not weight then take that exact same volume of muscle and weigh them both then the muscle is going to weigh more than the fat simply because it's more compact and tighter together where as the fat as little "air" pockets.

careful...you might start a rumor and people might start thinking it's air that makes them fat. I can see it now.... the Gas X/Hold your breath diet.

Trying to think what she may have meant..maybe just trying to get you to eat and not be obsessed by macros and numbers, etc?
