Yea sure keep dating her...if you want kids with an average IQ of 40. What do you talk to her about anyways? A girl like that would drive me nuts.

He couldn't even tell after knowing the girl for six months dude. She isn't retarded, she just has trouble learning certain things.
If she makes you happy, and can cook, clean, take care of kids, and do chores I don't see a problem.
You handle the bills and finances and its all good.

Ok guys its not like she is a retard or anything. She knows how to drive, she has a job. She can carry a conversation, had she never told me about this problem I would have never known. She babysits her nephew everyday and I can tell you that she takes care of him as if he were hers, she would be a great mother. Honestly I dont see anything wrong with her, I was just surprised to hear this news, she cried and cried after she told me because she thought I would dump her because of it, but I dont see it as a reason for anything to change.

That's nice of you, but maybe I'm just an ahole.
But I would not have children with someone with a learning disability. I wouldn't want my children to have the same problem as her.
Same with women not wanting to have children with short men. I see nothing wrong with them not wanting their children to be short.

All women have learning disabilities. Its called being a woman. Just be happy she admits it. So now you wont have to smack her around as much as other women.

When was the last time you saw a good female mechanic, plumber, roofer or carpenter? Lots of guys take jobs that other people see as ****ty because they're good at what they do and they don't wanna go to college. ****, if I were a good carpenter or mechanic, I probably wouldn't go to college.
Guys also don't have the option of stripping to put themselves through school.
/hijack
As far as dating somebody with a learning disability goes, if I were dating a girl like yours, OP, I wouldn't let her go. So she has problems with numbers, big deal. Only thing that'd matter to me would be her potential as a wife and mother. Seems like your girl's got that **** down pat.

I don't know whats more stupid. You giving a damn about your girlfriend talking special ed classes in high school. Or the guy saying he wouldn't want to have kids with her, as if "stupidity" is inherited through genetics. it just makes me think you are kinda dumb guy.

I'm sorry to hear this coming from a medic.
"Learning disability" is very often just a term used to pigeon hole students who need additional help at school. It could mean anything from severe retardation to simply having trouble with numbers at a particular stage of her education. Given that the OP dated this girl for 6 months without noticing anything, it sounds as if this "disability" might be negligible.
Intelligence is not a discrete quality by itself - it is multi-faceted and includes abilities as disparate as memory, reasoning, and numeracy. For Mycophage to say that "intelligence" largely comes from the mother is simply meaningless. The claim that the foetal environment can impact on intelligence (which I assume is what Mycophage is getting at) is not very well developed. It is certainly not something anyone should be worrying about when choosing who to date, or even have kids with...
If this girl is kind, loyal, and trustworthy, then you should be damn grateful!

Its just something you'll both have to work with. I don't think its a make or break problem, theres far worst probs out there. Be supportive, patient, etc. When a person has unconditional love for another, it doesn't matter if the person is missin a leg, or unable to see, etc. You've stated she makes you happy, just keep on goin the way you've kept on goin with her before finding this out. Good luck.

TBH Im quite pissed off that you're asking other people. The answer is no, its not a problem.
You should be glad that you have that GF if you're in it for a long term relationship (If anyone doesnt know the reason why, y ou're probably too young and too self centered)
I would rather take a girl with a learning disability than a total knock out who's got money and is good in bed, because they're trouble
/anger
ps: To people who think this is such a big deal, look at yourselves first and find out what your short comings are

i definitely agree with the points you made. there are plenty of people with great genetic potential that never do anything with it, and people with much less, who accomplish more. i used to teach swim lessons to a little girl who was pretty heavily retarded, but she made the honor roll every semester through hard work.
that said, it's still best to have a mate with high genetic potential, regardless of what they've done with it.
and THAT SAID, it sounds like you really like this girl, so don't create a problem if there isn't one. you knocked her up, so in any case, you've got to make the best of the situation. if you really think she'll be a good mother, that's a lot more than most people get, and definitely something to be thankful for.

I honestly don't see what the problem is. A learning disability is anything these days. By the sounds of it she just isn't very academic. That's what it used to be called before everyone was suffering from one thing or another. I can not physically see anything that would be a problem.

I'm not sure how correct your teacher is. My mum, all respect to her, is to be fair quite stupid. My Dad on the otherhand is an extremely intelligent guy, which I assume is where I got my academic capabilities from. I certainly didn't get that from my mother.

loads of morons in this board lulz
to all that diss her, ask yourselves whether you're even worthy of the girl
People who grew up with disabilities tend to go far and succeed in things that really count
Unlike your usual self centered moron who thinks that money and sex are the most important goals in life
She's got a learning disability, but she will still learn but most of you guys are MORONS who will probably never change for the better and learn any better

i agree, i'm in the same boat. stupid mom, smart dad. i find it hard to believe my professor, but he was SO spot on about EVERYTHING else in psychology, and such a good teacher, that i honestly can't imagine him being wrong. he gets paid something like $1000 an hour (no joke, he teaches for Kaplan), and honestly, i think he's worth it, he was probably the most informed and intelligent teacher i've ever had. pretty disappointing if he's right, though.
