I don't know about over there, but I'm currently going through the hiring process for some government jobs and they give massive preference to those who have served previously. You take these competency tests and then they automatically get a bonus 10-15% over their regular score.

Yes, there are a ton of jobs where you get preference for being military/veteran or retired if you stick it out. I'm thinking of going myself. Why not? Go IT field, have them train me, get some experience, pay for a real degree in IT come out and get automatic preference for military term. I'm single, with little to no bills, I'd sell my car and just bankroll money for my term of service (if living close enough to work). Sounds like a good deal. Plus military dudes roll in the womenz. lol
The downside of course, is that some MISCers will talk junk about you lol and you might get in a combat situation, but hey, break a few eggs to get an omelet right?

Army, If I join as an infantry soldier I can go onto become a physical training instructor, I would like to be a fitness trainer one day so this will only help me reach that goal.
What are you thinking of joining (branch, job etc?)

You mean in the civilian world? B/c if you go infantry, that's not even part of your job. Also, there's no training that you'll receive that will help you become a civilian trainer.
Taking care of your body is something you do for yourself.

Seriously dude... teaching people to become physical trainers isn't what the military does. It's best to go to college if being a physical trainer is what you really want to do. I can understand if you want to serve the country before you die though, but it sounds to me like you really need to think this over a bit more and figure out your goals and priorities definetly. It seems to me your still too unsure.

First go to each branch of service to find out what they have to offer that appeals to you.
Second pick the branch and job you want and think ahead if you get out what do you want to do with the skills you've learned
Actually the first question you really need to sit down and meditate on is "Do I want to serve?"
Put aside Bush, politices, what your family and freinds will say and ask yourself that. I served 8 years and because of it all the doors that opened for me today, all the great people I've met in my life today are because of serving, being a veteran of the war and just people knowing that I served in the Marines (yes I'm bragging just a little here)

You need to do whats best for you. Sorry but the Military wont make you a better personal trainer. If you want to do that you should go to college I did the Marine Corps for four years and a few months extra so I could get the experience and traning to help with me becoming a Police Officer, it payed off and now Im a cop in D.C so again do what will help you reach your goals in life. Maybe the Military will help then again maybe it wont

Do it for 20 years, meanwhile get them to pay for you to go to school, then when you're in your early 40s retire from the military and get a job with the Federal Government (veterans preference).
When you hit 62 you'll be able to retire with 2 retirements in your pocket, plus free healthcare from your service in the military.

I've wanted to join for a while too. The only reason I haven't is because of the minimum contract times (4 years + 4 years IRR) is too long, especially given the not-so-good pay. If military pay > civilian pay (i.e. personal trainer?), and don't mind the contract length, go for it. If they paid more, or made the contract shorter, I'd love to do it, tbh.
