When I don't have access to food, I do a protein shake before and after + carbs, usually a complex carb before (whole wheat bread or oatmeal) and a simpler carb after (free apples at the gym). I count both of them as meals since consumption is roughly 2.5 hours apart, so the protein amount is the same for both.
