O/T Back in Country
Hello all, just wanted to take a bit of time and let everyone know that I'm back in Afghanistan again. Arrived safe and sound about five days ago but still trying to get the sleep cycle worked out. So far I've been to the gym once, which is pretty well equipped. I'm hoping by tomorrow or Monday I'll be able to get back into my normal routine. Meanwhile I'll still be lurking as often as I can even if I don't get the time to post as much.

You cam just in time, things are getting interesting after the locals found out about the soldier in Iraq using the Koran as target practice! Stay safe.

Thanks for the warm wishes...it's definitely a different environment than the one I was in two years ago. I guess that's a good thing though as I spent a good part of my tour last time in firefights.

I can relate 1stindoor.
I will echo what others have said......stay tough and get your ass (and all others) home safely.
BTW....what is TOD for you over there, 12 months?
Thank you for your sacrifices.

Hey bro, keep your head down. I lost track of you many months back, but had seen where you had come back to the states. Send us more pics (loved those pics!) whenever you can. You still reigning champ for DLs in your unit, old man?

I don't know if I'm the reigning champ yet or not. I hit the gym today for the second time since I've been here (sleep cycle is being forced to rewire itself). Anyhows, ended up squatting 405 for 5 reps. Had two of my Soldiers come up to me later on during the morning and ask how much weight that was. When I told them they both said it was more than they could do. I said it was just a number and the important thing is they were in the gym.
They all know I hate to run...but so far they're giving me a bit of distance in the gym. Tomorrow is back/bi day...we'll see if my legs are recovered enough to pull something notable off the floor.

By the way...I've just started taking some pics...I'll get some up on this thread as soon as I have some time to shrink them down to size. Being a 1SG is wearing me out for personal time.

Thanks all, and Happy Memorial Day to you as well. Today's been a fairly quiet day and our messhall threw a big bar-b-que for the Memorial Day weekend. More to follow in as this deployment plays out.

I pulled 425 off the floor today for one. My set looked like this:
135 x 10
225 x 8
315 x 6
405 x 1
425 x 1
225 x 10
I don't know if it's notable yet, but it felt good as I have been laying off of them for about a month or so.

Well done, soldier!
My memory is faulty, but weren't you pulling close to 500 about a year or so ago?
Oh, and let your fellow comrades know that we all thank them for what they do every day, and are thinking of them always, and especially today

Your memory is still good dbx, I hit my PB on my last rotation which was 500. Since I returned stateside I haven't tried to go that heavy. The heaviest I have done in the last 6 or more months was probably only 405.

I try not to get into discussions about the country normally. This is all my personal opinion, I will tell you that the environment is different than it was two years ago, and that the Afghan National Army is taking a much more active role in the day to day combat operations. This is a good thing as one day I would like to be worked out of a job. Other than that, I'll say that the people are friendly in the outlying areas, and they support us and our efforts for the most part.

Thanks Wulf...I'm doing pretty good right now. Let me know if you're coming into country. If you're coming through my AO...I make a mean espresso in my quarters. My wife bought me a really nice machine before I left.

A moment of silence
Hello all,
Sorry I haven't been online in a few days. In case it hasn't reached your side of the planet yet...we lost one of ours today. During a long protracted gunfight one of our Soldiers lost his life. I'm asking you for moment of silence to remember Dave. He was a good Soldier and a solid team mate. He leaves behind two small children. In a few hours we will be conducting a ramp ceremony to send him off back to the states. On Sunday we'll conduct a memorial ceremony for our Soldiers. Thanks.
