it seems like all the carbohydrates in universal real gains are coming from sugar, 198g of sugar per serving... that is not necessarily the best type of carbs to betaking in unless it is used post work out. Something like ISOPURE MASS has little sugar and mostly complex carbs.

I am new to these weight gainers, but i just recieved serious mass in the mail today and i have the banna flavor and it seriously tasted like candy.
I wonder if 21g of sugar is probably to much for only ~80g of carbs...

I just received cyto gainer today. I don't plan on working out much. What will happen if I take it and not work out? Will I still gain weight?

Yeah you will gain weight but it'll turn into fat since your not going to workout
i use my gainer post workout the 30 grams of protein + 40 grams of carbo and about 2.5-5 grams of creatine does the trick, i get good gains.

I liked taking the Cytogainer (2 scoops + 2 cups milk). It came out to be the same macros, but put some casien in the system.
I just bought a 10lb tub of Pro Complex Gainer, we'll see how it works.

I would definitley have to say Mass XXX from GNC is the best protein i have ever used for gaining weight. 750 cal in water 990 in 2% milk (1050 in whole milk) and 50g of protein. Ive tried cytogainer and gained nothin. Used this and gained 20lbs in 2 months. my BF did not rise still 8%. All muscle and maybe some bone bc i grew an inch, dunno. i was a measley 125 lbs b4 usin XXX. Im still using it and regret trying cytogainer. Now im weighin ~150 and im trying to get to 170.

i got a free tub of Mus-L BLAST from my gym. It has 21g protein and 134g of carbs per serving (68g of sugar). This could be decent with some added whey, maybe?

I think if your going to gain, you need to include 6-8 (5 being smaller meals) that give you a higher caloric and carb intake than your body requires by a couple hundred percent. Otherwise the gainers and stuff are basically (not in everyone but most people) giving you little more than what your body requires. So if you STACK gainers untop of a hefty diet then you will see results with almost ANY gainer that isnt a total waste of money. If you eat enough, just buy some Whey.

One of my friends came to me asking what weight gainer I thought he should take. I didn't have a lot of experience with weight gainers so I started looking up all the different brands. After reading about a lot of them I decided to recommend Real Gains. He ended up gaining 14LBS, and that was in Iraq. Not an easy place to make sure that you're always eating right. He's quite happy with it and has continued to take it. Based on that, I'm going to have to say that Real Gains is definitely one of the top weight gainers.

So... what would the best time to take a weight gainer be... before workout or after? or during the day?

I looked at all the gainers offered by BB's store, and I picked out the ones with low sugar, low carb to protein ratios (I figure I get enough carbs from other sources, so I don't need a 4:1 ratio like some gainers offer - is this wise?), creatine and glutamine. Dymatize's High Protein Mega Gainer looks the best, based solely on stats, including low cholesterol, and it's fairly cheap too. It's also got multiple protein sources, casein included.
Should I still take a multi-vitamin once I start using a gainer?
Here are the best ones, ordered by lowest price:

Edit: Just crunched some numbers, and found that it's probably actually cheaper to buy rather than make a gainer. ON Whey costs about 2.1 cents per gram of protein (price/total grams of protein), Dymatize's costs 2.7 cents per gram of protein, and that latter figure ignores all the other stuff in the gainer. Think of it this way, the cost of the amount of protein in Dymatize is about $37.50, if you use the price per gram of ON Whey. The other $12.50 gets you carbs, fat, glutamine, creatine, vitamins, etc.

Awesome, thanks for doing all that legwork. I love IDS products, so I'm going to agree with what you've got there.
