Waking up HUNGRY???
I've been having this problem the last year or so. No matter what I eat before bed I wake up in the middle of the night STARVING....like I'm damn near posessed! Anyone else have this problem? Is it usually an indicator of not eating enough calories during the day?

How many kcal are you eating a day
what is your goal
and what is your pre-bed meal?
also how frequently are you training/doing cardio
Overtraining and undereating is a common thing and also skimpin on nutrition throughout the day will catch up.

Well I'm 5'10 currently between 195-202lbs. Haven't stepped on the scale in 3 weeks and when I did I was 199 last time. I was actually cutting to do a show May 17th and was at 196.5 down from 213 when I found out I financially couldn't do it.
Calories per day range lately between 2,600-3,200. I haven't been keeping track as close as I should be.
Also meal frequency is F'ed up as I don't have money right now so I usually don't eat till AFTER I workout which is like 3-4 meals between 8Pm-2 AM.....
If I do fall asleep I'll wake up 2-3 hours later hungry again.

I have been working out 6 days/week with running and longer duration cardio (40-60 mins) 3-4 times/week.
Took today totally off and basically re-fed on PB & J (on crackers and ****ty bread ha) and raisins basically...

at 200 lbs or so and taking 2600-3000 and working out 6x and doing cardio 4x a week you really need to think this through.
You still never specificed what you usually have before bed even though its usually awkard you said and not set in stone, but you have to prepare for the worst seeing your tight on money pack a lot of sandwiches, buy a turkey on sale at the grocery store cook it and slice it up and make a ton of sandwiches with it, invest in a lot of canned tuna or big packets of tuna,
Olive oil, Natural Peanut Butter, and Nuts to help bring up the cals and incorproate good fats, if you must buy oats, rice in bulk along with your bread to make things for the week so you can prep out meals.
It seems like your not getting enough throughout the day causing you to wake up starving,
since you are financally in trouble do you currently take any supplements such as a whey/mutli? anything along this nature.

Actually I don't normally eat any bread. But instead of being able to go all out and buy cookies and/or pizza today (as I do try to on my day off have an entire cheat day) I did some Life cereal PB&J on some raisin bread and english muffins and had close to a cup of raisins. Went low on protein today. But I digress!
I'm still trying to cut and keep it clean. Ok so before bed is usually a protien source chicken or tuna, green veggies and around 2 cups dry oats. I'll usually go to bed like an hour after that say. I usually also have two carb meals pre-bed...one being my post workout and another the meal later. All clean sources.

Also my workout split is as follows:
Sunday-Legs
Monday-Chest/Cardio upwards of 60 minutes combo running/walking
usually around 40-45 avg.
Tuesday-Heavy back Deadlifts or Rack pulls
Wednesday-Shoulders/traps/Cardio 40-60 mins combo of running and walking
Thursday-Arms/Abs/Light treadmill walking 4.0-4.5 MPH 25-30 mins
Friday-Off Or cardio and abs depending on how I feel
Saturday cardio and abs or off depending.
I have workout logs I can post also if I may be doing too much?

how much fat are you getting in your diet? before bed try to add some fat, i know you workout late at night but still in that meal AFTer your post-workout try adding fat before bed, this will help keep things stable and slow down the absorption. Also opt for some kind of casein choices like dairy.. these are slower digeting proteins that will hold you over.. Do you like cottage cheese, yogurt, milk? try a few of these if you can.
If its clean dont stress it just keep eating, but i doubt ur eating 2 cups of oats an hour before bed.. thats 600 cals right there.
I would also consider giving an offday in between all your workouts or work a 2 on 1 off 2 on 1 off kind of deal to give your body rest. I think ur doing a lot of activity and you need more cals to make up for it

Stay away from dairy for the most part.
Tho I did do cottage cheese before bed during the recent contest prep and I still awoke hungry which is why I'm posting. Perhaps I'll try some EVOO with my protein and veggies which should help.
As far as the oats go I have a 3/4 cup measureing cup I use and I usually do 3 servings with that....two=1.5 cups....3 is a lil over 2 cups dry. I then pour boiling water on top.
Gotta remember I usually don't eat anything from like 3 AM to 7:30 or 8 pm...I'm not working so I figure not having the money to buy more food to eat is hurting me cause I'm not really active till I workout.

Other carb I have is usually a yam of some undetermined weight. I usually eat two medium sized ones. Bigger if I did legs.

you should still invest in maybe some granola / trail mix or make your own there is a great recipe on t-nation.com
you need to eat something from 3 a.m. until 7 at night? thats going 15 hours without anything you wonder why your starving,
Pack stuff up in advance and take it with you. Starving for 15 hours and then eating 3k cals in a matter of horus wont help you

Won't help with hunger right?
I guess that's the problem then not eating enough during the day. I just kept thinking I have something insanely wrong with me...

Myhusband eats all through the day, but like a zombie, he wakes up at 2-3am and eats anything in sight..usually spoonfuls of PB or crackers or cereal. I am not sure what to do to help him.

I put some jerkey by my bed at night. Wake up, take a pee, and chew a few pieces, right back to bed! Works great for me.

try consuming 40 grams casein protein immediately before bedtime...it has been working excellent for me. leaves you feeling full as the protein slowly digests while you sleep...also, the minute i wake up in the morning i consume 40 grams whey protein...thats before i do anything....since i have been doing this i have never felt better and my gains have been great...try it!
