Interesting side note that your eating made me think of: I read an interesting article today that women who eat cereal and bananas are more likely to have boys. They aren't sure if it's the food or eating breakfast that does it but bananas is an old wives tail.
I am curious what your doctor said about ab exercises. I've seen some say not to do anything in the 3rd trimester.

I've got HOOAH Army docs; they're all for doing as much as I can for as long as I can LOL But specifically, my fitness junkie OB RN saw the health nut snacks I had with me, got all excited, and basically said "can't do abs" is a bunch o'crap. She got down on the floor and showed me side crunches as something you can do "until the day you deliver". Everything else is at my discretion. If it feels like it's straining, ease up or stop. Careful of stuff lying flat on your back, stop doing things flat on my back after the first trimester. I was able to continue a few weeks past the first trimester before I felt "weird" like I was being squished hehe
I'm sure they'd tell someone starting off way out of shape not to do anything in the third trimester. Things really are getting strained at that point so if you weren't strong to begin with you'll hurt yourself. Just like any exercise, pregnant or not really.
And of course, overall I don't do ANYTHING to the point of being huffy and puffy or red in the face. If I'm not getting enough oxygen, neither is baby.
TIME FOR LUIGIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII'S

Yes, Kashi! LOL I think it was the crackers. The way our Army hospital works is all the newly preggos get herded into an intro class as our first 'appointment'. During this class she held up my crackers and told everyone, "THESE are the kind of things you should snack on. Not junk food!" I felt like I was in 1st grade and my pretty drawing was the best in the class HAHAHAHA
"Interesting" student, eh?? hehe How so?
Oh, and that article about pregnancy and breakfast....sounds like a version of what's been all over the place here (tv news, newspapers, internet). This one says that if you skip breakfast the day you conceive you're more likely to have a girl. If you eat a good breakfast you're more likely to have a boy. I'm thinking it's a load of bunk because the percentages were something like the breakfast skippers had 54% girls vs. 46% boys. That's too close to 50/50 to be making a big deal over, I think!
Interesting thing about that class and what the RN said about exercise that I just remembered... To the whole class she said the usual "keep doing what you've been doing as long as it's comfortable" and walk, walk, walk even if you weren't walking before. But the big emphasis was on just walking. When she started talking to me alone afterward was when she got all gung-ho about lifting and running (She said she ran a marathon while pregnant. Actually, she said marathonS, but I just can't wrap my head around that LOL ). I'm convinced the medical community is just trying to be overly cautious about the general exercise advice it dispenses so as to not get sued and to protect out of shape soon-to-be mothers!
And another "OH!" I forget alot of stuff :P That same RN said squats are a no-no. Puts too much pressure on the middle. I couldn't squat that much to begin with and used the safety deal so I kept doing them until the lower back pain started (which I suspect SLDLs as the cause)some time around week 8. But if you can do a more significant amount of weight than my 50-70lbs, squats are naughty!

Wonderful progress pictures!
I agree the whole "what the mother eats has probable cause for gender" is crap. Most retarded thing ever. Sorry. The ONLY way I could see how they would think that what we (the women) eat that would help get the gender would be because of how it would affect the cervical mucus/ vaginal environment. But that would be what we in as a whole, not just WHEN we eat. lol That's just crazy. Seeing as it's the MAN that has the sperm that determines the gender. NOT us. We have one.. we only have X. That's it. Guys carry the gender determining other chromosome. So we will either get another X, which would make a girl.. or a Y, which would make boy. And who ever gets there first, is the winner! haha

Yesterday...
Elliptical
10 minutes, 3 minute cooldown, 10 minutes, 3 minute cooldown
Starting to feel a little groin pain when moving certain ways (will not be doing adductor/abductor machine any time soon, for example!). Started feeling a little strain in that area so I didn't do my 3 sets of 10 minutes.
Bicep curls w/wall sit
15x5x5
Wanted to try 20# but I could already feel the abs working with 15#!
Overhead tricep extension
10x10x3
1:30 plank
Pushups
10, 6 Meant to go for 10 on the second set, but I almost threw up :P The Nexium isn't working as well as it has been for the last 2 months Wouldn't that be great...throwing up at the gym. I already have to deal with stupid comments from people who think pregnant women are so freakin fragile.
Lower back on hyper bench
BWx10x3
It makes me a little sad that I feel that with no weight anymore, but then I remember that I am my own weight! I'm carrying around almost 20 extra pounds HAHAHAA
Lots and lots of stretching.
Geeze, that was IT??? I wanted to do more bis and tris, but a bunch of Marines came in and swarmed the DBs. I was actually using the stupid purple ones in the "ab" room LOL
Ho hum....
Yesterday's food...
Breakfast: whole wheat flax banana bread w/butter
Snack: Don't remember??? Might not have had one.
Lunch: Tuna sandwich w/last of mayo and 2 dill pickle stackers on ww oat bread. I think I'm over the mayo kick. Not gonna buy anymore!
**workout**
"Snack": whey protein and skim milk
Dinner #1: Original Veggie Burger brand bean/veggie wraps
Dinner #2: grilled chicken salad w/ff ranch and 1/2 Coke
Snack: 8 strawberries, glass of skim milk
Aaaaaaaaaand today I won't be doing much of anything because the AC guys should start replacing the ductwork in about half an hour. Guess I'll just knit...

Thanks, ladies AMJ, make sure to get a good "before" shot...that's what REALLY trips me out! I can't wait to see the before compared to the very last preggo shot LOL
That's what I thought, Ninja! Especially after seeing the stats!! Entire human populations can be 54/46 so how was that study any different from the norm??
You should see me in a room full of women spouting old wive's tales about pregnancy and gender prediction...I'm a big fat party pooper there, too LOL
"I bet it's a boy/girl because blahblahblah..."
Me: "You have a 50% chance of being right."

That's exactly the theory. Our "environment" is supposed to give an edge to the sperm of one gender or the other depending on what we eat. I think they are basing it on animals that tend towards one gender or the other depending on the food supply. Of course, some of those animals can change gender or procreate without sperm so humans might be a bit behind on that evolutionary measure.
LOVE the progression pics!

WELL. I started this week all kinds of gung-ho feeling good and ready to hit the gym every day. Then I remembered two days would have to be spent at home while the AC guys redid all that duct work. Then my internet decided to go crazy on me. Then I had my one hour glucose test and doc appointment. I "failed" the glucose test. I know alot of people have elevated levels on the one hour test then come out fine on the three hour, but lucky for me my mom, grandmother, and probably others have diabetes. Or "pre-diabetes". Whatever. Mom can control hers with diet, Grandma takes the meds. And it would actually explain alot of oddball symptoms I've had over the last 10 years or so. I'm not all that hopeful that I'll be given the all-clear after the three hour test.
Soooooo....three hour glucose test for me on Monday. I'm not terribly scared or anything because I know I exercise and eat well which seems to be the main defense. And I guess I'm not surprised. But I HATE HATE HATE getting stuck with needles Between fasting and getting blood drawn 3 or 4 times in one day I betcha I end up face first on the floor. WOO!
One step at a time, I suppose. Just waiting for Monday now.

ugh that's sucky! Thankfully there isn't a real big history of diabetes or anything in my family.I think maybe only one or two relatives have it. And got it later in life due to being overweight, etc. Not because of anything else. I passed with flying colors when I was pregnant with my daughter. I go in for my 1 hour test next Friday. So I'm not too worried about it. But I've heard a lot of people failing the 1 hour and passing the 3 hour with flying colors. And from what else I hear, they only move to the needles if you can't keep the sugar levels under control with diet. They'll give you the sugar checker thing, etc. And give you a time limit (like a week or two, I think) to see if you can keep it under control on your own. then if that doesn't work, then they move to the insulin shots.
Hope everything works out Monday! Keep us posted!

Thanks, guys.
That sucked. I look like a heroin addict. A wonderful combination of two of my least favorite things: not eating and getting blood drawn. I didn't pass out, but got pretty darn close. That huge dose of glucose made me loopy enough to just about flip out when they went to stick me the second time. I love it when the only people crying in the lab are me- a 30 year old woman- and a 2 year old LOL
twinnett- ketones in urine, crazy dry mouth at night even after very well hydrating all day. 1st trimester I had weeks of horrible excessive thirst WHILE guzzling water all day. Have had blurred vision/halos. Severe drops in blood sugar that made me 'disoriented'. Not so bad that I was out of it completely, but enough that I had to eat NOW or I'd pass out and I sure couldn't drive for a while. Chronic yeast. Never had things all at once, though. Most things were years apart so when I mention them to docs I'd get pooh-poohed. Even got a shoulder shrug and "oh well" once. Nice. And lucky for me my mom's family SUCKS and there's no communication so I didn't even know anyone was diabetic until the last year or two.
Supposed to get results from today within 24 hours.
Ninja, I sure hope I can keep it under control with no poking!! :P I think I could. I don't *think* there's anyone in my family who has to use insulin, and I live a hellova lot healthier than any of them! Good luck with your glucose test, although it doesn't sound like something you need to worry about
I don't WANT to have diabetes, gestational or not, but it sure would be nice to have a reason for the weirdness and be able to DO something about it!
More waiting...tic toc tic toc...

Not sure whether or not to hope you do or don't have temporary or permanent diabetes. Good to have an explanation, bad to have it - not sure but I hope which ever way it goes is the one that makes you feel better.

Thanks I may be getting the best of both worlds in a weird way... Got the results from the test back, but no interpretation. I guess once the doc has a look she'll give me a call and we'll go from there. The first hour level was high, but only by one point (141). The nurse (I assume) seemed slightly puzzled by the fact that my last hour level was "awfully low" at 44.
So I'm not off-the-charts deadly diabetic, but there's definitely something funky going on and it's not just in my head LOL
Now for some more waiting!
Sorry I'm not really 'participating' with other people's journals. I'm feeling very self centered at the moment with this stuff going on! All I really want to do is concentrate on eating well and taking care of myself. Me, me, me, me LOL And I'm still just plain tired of computers!!!
I did go to the gym today. Did my usual 3 sets of 10 minutes on the elliptical. Tried to do pushups and planks but didn't get very far. My stomach has literally moved SOMEWHERE and it feels like it's getting squished when I do those things. It takes everything I have in me to keep from throwing up! I can squeaze in about 10 really fast pushups and about a 30 second plank before I wanna toss my cookies LOL No pain or nausea or anything, though. Last night the baby gave me a good whack right where my stomach used to be, so...yeah...I don't know where he put it hehe

Finally got a call. Um...apparently what happened is "normal" and only happened because I'd fasted. I've fasted before, and I've never crashed that hard. Sure, I've been starving, woozy, and irritable but it's never been as bad as that. And I sure as hell have never chugged down that much sugar within less than 5 minutes. That fact didn't seem to matter. I even 'double checked' and said, "44 is NORMAL? Really???" A non-OB nurse friend of mine DOES think it's a problem...
Basically the answer is "no biggie." She told me to just keep snacks with me all the time, eat often, etc. I already knew that. Well, I've been fairly successfully dealing with this for years on my own so I guess I'll keep on doing it and just be even more careful. And I'll bring it up at my next appointment which is with a different doctor.
I don't know what the heck a doc could do for me that I can't do for myself at this point, anyway, but I'm back to being less than impressed with the OBs here. A friend of mine recently had a bunch of scary issues while pregnant that they acted like were no big deal and she ended up in awfully bad shape. It would just be NICE if they weren't so blase about things that could potentially be life threatening or at the very least could land me in the ER.
FYI in case anyone reading has some knowledge, I went from 81 after fasting, to 141 after drinking the glucose, then crashed to 44 afterward.
Poor hubby's really worried after seeing me fighting passing out in his car :-/

That's too bad that they weren't more helpful. Hopefully in your case it really isn't any big deal.
And don't worry about not visiting other people's journals. We all go through that. Well, except for maybe Tara but I don't know how she finds the time for everything she does. Just know that even if I'm not commenting (see, I'm in a selfish mood, too) I'm still interested and still reading.

I hope so! I was "okay" before, technically nothing's changed, so I guess I'm "okay" now, right? I'll just be on guard.
I'm glad other people go through the selfish thing, too Gosh...my brain can only focus on one thing at a time, it seems.
Trying to convince myself to get to the gym again this morning. Or maybe I'll just try walking on our treadmill. The lower back has been feeling better and better so I think it's time to give it a shot. I'd take the doggies out for a walk, but I'm afraid the pain will kick in and I'll be stuck somewhere away from the house with two crazy dogs!! Hubby and I keep joking that we're going to get me a wagon. Either he can pull it and take me on walks, or we can tie the dogs to it and they'll pull me. When I went to the gym Tuesday the AC still wasn't on and all the doors were shut! That day was fairly cool, but today is supposed to be hotter. Until they get the AC issue fixed (it's the whole Army post, not just the gyms) I need another option!
Can't just be easy, can it? LOL
I am feeling the third trimester sleepies coming on. I'm not getting the sudden exhaustion I would feel every day at 4pm in the first trimester, but I'm definitely dragging and wanna be a lazy turd hehe
Oooh...I'm kinda blabby today. Hmmmmmmm.....think I'm procrastinating just a wee bit??
New pics...28 weeks.
Letting it all hang out
Flexing to see what's left of the abs
Flexing from the front. I was shocked when I still had something left at 25 weeks. Now I'm REALLY shocked!!! Kinda creepy LOL

I used our treadmill and I WALKED I WALKED I WALKED!!! Wooohoooo!!! 2.25 miles Haven't walked that far in months! My lower back was stiff, but I had none of that pain that was making walking impossible before
Tried to do girly pushups instead of real ones since real ones were making me wanna puke, but those hurt my knees. And my ego :P Will try again another time with a pillow under my knees or something.

Walked 1.3 miles today. Had some pain, but slowing down stopped it. Friend wanted to try out my jogging stroller. I converted her, and she ordered one

Hmm that is strange. Although, I've never had to take the 3 hour test. And I know nowadays( as opposed to just 4 years ago, when I was pregnant with my daughter) they tell you not to fast for the 1 hour, just don't eat sweet, carbs, etc within 2 hours of doing the test. I fasted for this one hour too. Regardless of what the RN had told me. But never felt sick or like I was crashing. I've had that feeling before. But that usually if I haven't eaten for a while, and I've been really busy (pregnant or not). For the 3 hour, I guess they test your blood sugar levels before hand and after?
I've always heard bad things about military docs and pregnancy stuff. Thankfully when we were in the Marine Corps, we lived too far from a base, so I got to see and choose my own civilian doctors and hospital.
The belly looks marvelous!

Thanks And luuuuuucky you getting to choose your own docs!! I don't know what these Army docs are thinking anymore. I get one doc who barely looks at my one hour labs and says "you're fine", another calls me to say it wasn't fine and I need the three hour. Then when the numbers come back in the NOT normal range, she tells me I'm fine??? Still gonna bring this up with yet another doc on the 28th...
Yes, with the three hour they draw blood and test glucose levels after fasting when you first arrive. You drink that nasty sugar drink (twice as strong as the one hour test's drink), then they draw your blood an hour after. Wait an hour, draw. Wait another hour, draw. Suuuuuuuuuucks! LOL
Walked a whole hour on my treadmill yesterday Only 2mph, but hey! I walked! I'm just so darned giddy that I can walk again I thought it was supposed to be the opposite....isn't the lower back pain supposed to get WORSE as you go along, not BETTER??
Holy crap I need to get off this stupid computer...

Spin class this morning Took it waaaaaaaay easy since I hadn't been in a while. Thought I'd give it a shot since it's been cool since the night before last. It wasn't hot, but it did get yucky stuffy.
Decline isolateral bench press
40x10x3
Isolateral high row
70x10x3
Front and side raises
10x5x3
Obs on hyper bench
BWx15x2 each side. Using hands to help myself now and doing a short range of motion. I feel like I could safely do more, but I do feel a little bit working so fine. Why push it at this point.
Lower back on hyper bench
BWx15x2 Same...using hands to help myself and doing a short range of motion.
Obviously my workouts are no longer organized LOL Oddly, they were still relatively organized before I came back here hehe I just hit "that" point, I guess

When are you due again? Mid-July? You are doing great for someone in their third tri-mester.

Thanks for visiting my journal so long ago. I've been in the selfish mode myself lately. I do that in spurts. We have to since it's not just "us" anymore, it's "we". Yikes
You look great for 29 weeks! I'm at 21, and I feel like a whale. My short term goal is to get my biceps back. Have you noticed more fat on the upper arms or is it just me? sigh
I'm afraid of the diabetes test, too. I also have had odd moments of dizziness, gonna faint feeling, etc... after I've had too much sugar and no protein to balance it out. Although, I can easily avoid it by sticking to a normal diet.
