Newbie looking for the right direction...
I'm 22 years old, 5'2", 178lbs. I want to slim up and be strong, not necessarily body building strong (unless I decide later on that I love it), but for the time being just lean and strong. I'm looking for the right diet to follow and whether or not I should take supplements and/or other things.
My workout thus far has been jogging 1 mile every day, 500 crunches, and various other dumbbell workouts I can do at home.
My diet thus far has been hard boiled eggs (no yoke), whole wheat toast with sugar free preserves, and water or green tea for breakfast, big salad with tuna for lunch, and nothing really set for dinner. I find that I get VERY hungry during the afternoons and I want to falter away from healthy foods.
Any advice?!
Thanks much!!!

You didn't mention any snacks. You should eat 5 - 6 times per day. Just make sure your snacks follow the same plan as your meals - fats, lean proteins, and carbs.

Why the hell are you doing 500 crunches?
At your weight I'd shoot for from about 1700-2000 calories/day, split into 6 meals, all containing protein.
Make sure you get in some healthy fats and vegetables.

word!
protein, protein, protein. eat every 3-4 hours, and move as much as you can. why wouldn't you want to be bodybuilder strong? is it because you are afraid of getting big? if so, don't worry about that. it takes a considerable amount of time and effort to get that big, and unless you can dedicate all day every day (and then some) to trying to get big then you will not (and more than likely even if you did you wouldn't get big). it is incredibly difficult for anyone to get bodybuilder big, even men. some of the best advice i've ever been given (from dave palumbo) in reference to training for optimal fat loss 'train like a bodybuilder.'

^^what they said... and...
The best advise I got when I first started was to 1. check out Body For Life. It's an exercise and diet program that has really worked for me, there is book and a website. 2. Log your food into Nutridiary.com and stick with a 20fat/40carb/40protien (macros)diet... the nutridiary log will give you percentages and keep track of everything you need, including calculating your recommended calories for your height and current weight. It also takes into consideration the amount of body fat you have and helps you with goals, like timelines etc.
Good luck.

Eat the yolk!
Eating smaller, more frequent meals every 3-4 hours can keep you satisfied. If you posted a sample diet with macros and eating times, it would make this a LOT easier.

Thanks everyone.
I dont like the yolk's...so I dont eat them..ha!
Doing the 500 crunches really isn't that bad. I do 10 sets of 50 crunches with rest time in between. That's the only ab work out I get in right now.
I don't know what to really keep around for snacks...so I've avoided them. I used to not really eat except for 1 meal a day...so getting in 3 is a big thing for me!
I'll check out both Body for Life and Nutridiary.com!
Thanks again!

Read through terracotta's website, a few times http://www.hotnfit.com/
And don't worry about supplements. Just focus on real foods dumping the junk food, processed food, and fast foods.
