Codes of Ethics/Conduct... How you Train?
what are some of your personal code of ethics and conduct? like how do you train? how do you conduct yourself? do you see other trainers act in a way and you shake your head in shame? or do you see other trainers act and think 'i might try that'?
just to get some flow in this section

In all honesty though, that is one thing I hate, seeing trainers sleep with their clients.

I call my clients maggots, and when they're doing push-ups sometimes I add extra weight on their backs with my boots.

Tell them the truth! Not what they want to hear. Tell them in a way that is acceptable to their attitudes (I am a school teacher, we practice this every parent teacher conference).

One of my pet peeve: Seeing fellow trainers talking on the phone or looking at other people while their clients are executing an exercise in the worst form/way possible....makes me cringe! Please, don't do this.

I know everybody's done it, but I personally don't like shouting EVERY SINGLE repetition (ex - "one, two, three, four, good, five, six. excellent, seven, great, good job, nine, etc..).
I'm not a big fan of helping the clients lift the weight when performing an exercise (like a biceps curl, lat-pull, etc..). Spotting is one thing, but if you're client simply hasn't reached that level where they need help to lift the final 5 repetitons of their set, why "baby" them?
I've seen plenty of trainers do this - I don't think it's proper, or in our protocol, to give clients a "massage" as a stretching or cool down routine after a workout session (unless you're licensed).
I also am not a big fan of having my clients do reps past 15. I personally think it's boring and a waste of time (unless they have an injury and/or a doctor recommended that they do so). And I hate when clients have the nerve to tell me that they want to do 20+ reps because they wanna get toned and not be bulky, as if doing 10 reps will do that...

Trainers who decided to become a trainer for the wrong reasons
Trainers on their cellphone while with a client
Trainers who date other trainers from the same gym
Trainers who sleep with their clients
Trainers who scream in their clients face
Trainers with wandering eyes while with a client
Trainers who cant stay in shape
Trainers who are late for an appt
Trainers who don't show up and ask for another trainer to train their client
Trainers who talk to others during a set while they're with a client
Trainers who give horrendous advice
Trainers who are just certified and feel they know it all
Trainers who gym hop

RE: Inappropriate/unlicensed massage, one option you have is to start pushing foam rolling technique. Plus, when the client isn't there, that's something they can do on their own once they've learned how.

Once they've learned how, then don't need you anymore

Ehh, wrong. A lot of clients, at least from the experience of myself and my mentors, get a PT because without one, even though they may know how to do something, they just won't do it, or they won't do it to the best of their ability.
One of my pet peeves from TAFE is all the teachers who have recited to us over and over that as a PT you have to have a bright, outgoing personality every minute that you're on the job. If it's a bad you just have to suck it up and put on the show that you're really happy to be there. I think that's crap. Granted, if you're not having a good day, I think it's very wrong to take it out on your clients, but I don't think for a second that it's unreasonable to be honest with them that, for whatever reason, you're having a rough time. Still try to be polite and helpful and give a good session, but I just don't agree with faking that you're happy and excited when you're not.
I think MVP gave a good list of what not to do.

Yeah, I've tried the foam roller technique, but I don't go past maybe 2 or 3 techniques because I'm not really familiar with how to use it (other than for exercises/core stabilization).

NASM's text book goes on and on about Self-Myofascial Release aka foam roller technique....You have to be careful who you use it with. Someone taking aspirin or on blood thinners might bruise. But, this technique can provide amazing results when used right.
**Also, it depends on your client. I won't have a male bodybuilder client who only wants to gain maximal strength & hypertrophy spend 15 mins out of his training session learning about foam roller technique...I say this because I made that mistake once, thinking everyone should try something at least once. Wrong, many don't care
