Hair doesn't grow back thicker after you shave it. As it first comes back, it APPEARS thicker because it's been cut off blunt. It also appears darker because it hasn't been exposed to the sun. Let it grow back out all the way and it will be exactly the same as it was before you shaved.
I shave my forearms and it doesn't grow back all hard and prickly, if that's another concern for you. It's not any more noticeable growing back in than before you shave...kinda works like the finer hair on the upper part of your leg. Barely noticeable to begin with and needs less upkeep than the lower part of your leg.

Try Nair- it works alot better than shaving (and less expensive and painful than waxing ) But BE SURE to do a small patch test *first* (some people are very sensitive to the chemicals in it- and you don't want red splotches all over yourself before a show!

Agreed. Nair is a great brand and their products get you smooth. The scented versions off a smell that's not as pronounced as the regular formula. I also really like Veet. In my experience, it does keep regrowth at bay for several days; the aloe and almond oil in it are wonderful for keeping my skin silky.

Yes, veet and nair do work very, very well. BUT, be wise and know your skin. I used Nair all over my legs before going to a week long boating vacation, and I ended up being severely allergic to it. Do the patch test!
Good luck with your 1st competition!

I have been advised not to Nair or wax because they affect the way your TAN will adhere to your skin ... I shave everything every day for about 3 weeks before a show ... what tanning products do you plan on using? Any stains (ProTan, JanTana) and you will not want to Nair because the stain will get in your hair follicles and look crazy...

It's personal, but I think the best way is to wax, it can be done several days out from comp time and it last a couple of weeks.
You should wax at a salon, they are professionals and minimizes the risk you of getting ingrown hairs.
You should wax at least arms and entire legs in addition to bikini area.
If you don?t want to wax all the fuzz, you can shave that off before you apply the last coats with comp tanner.
Waxing will not interfere with your tanning! You can do it 5-7 days out.
