My fiance got P90X last year and I started on it in January. I truly believe that it led me to overtraining. The workouts are very intense. The plyometrics killed my already bad knees. The weight lifting dvds were pointless (too many reps, too many exercises...a big waste of time. I am seeing more results now in less time with my own routine and I look forward to doing it instead of dreading the workout). The biggest thing with P90X is that I teach and it was literally sucking the life out of me. As soon as I cut it out and started back by 5 day weight lifting split, I felt a hundred times better. I still do the yoga section and occasionally the kenpo x with P90X. This is not to try to scare you away from it, but I would just be very wary of it before purchasing it.

Im on 1 month of the p90x and i feel great! and im starting to get more defined and my strength is way up(started out doing 5 pullups im now up to 20) I do the 8-10 reps for the lifting exercises but you can customize it to fit your needs like 12-15 for a slimmer leaner look and 8 to 10 for muscle build.
The program is not for everyone it's pretty ****in intense and alot of people cant handle it exspecially if your starting the program and you never exercised a day in your life.

I have the videos already and have tried some of them. I like the plyometric workout but it is very intense. I was wondering do you make your calories higher then because it seem like it burns a lot of calories.

Mine came with diet plan book. In the book, it has a calculation of what your calorie in take should be. I'm enjoying the workouts. I should have ordered this years ago. I'm on day 28. I had to skip 1 day. But picked up were I left off. Good luck and stick to it.

I've tried it and it kick my arse! (in a good way of course) I think it's geared more towards people who work out already and are in pretty good shape. Didn't like the kenpo at all cause I couldn't raise my heart rate enough. But I found out that yoga is nothing at all like I thought! Intense!
So, I guess it depends on your goals. It's really good for getting cut and adding strength, and pretty "customize-able" too.

I didn't think too much of the Kenpo myself at first. Same thing for me, didn't raise my heart much. So when I came back to Kenpo on Monday, I pushed to make the twists, punches and kicks. I was able to increase my heart rate then. But still not as much as Plyo. Doing yoga today. Going to try and stay balanced on my hands this time. Didn't quite make it last time. I'm starting my so called recovery week. Core synergistics tomorrow. Watched a little bit of that. Hard core, so to speak. BRING IT!!!

I just finished week 4 of P90X. It's no joke (check out my P90X blog for more details).
It's not for everyone, but it has been very effective for me. I find that the "rest" week allows the body to re-coop, so I didin't feel like I was over-training so much.

I just ordered P90X last night.
Hey guys, Im new to BodyBuilding.com.
I wanted to completely change my lifestyle to a better, and healthier way.
I have always been athletic with playing basketball, breakdancing, weight lifting, but its time to get serious.
Question for those who have used P90X or is currently using it:
1) On average, how many days a week do you work out on their schedule?
2) I have Patella Tendonitis. Does the Ply section really hurt my knees?
3) Is it one of the most effective, NO BS, systems out there?
I am no sucka for work out CD's, and have never dropped this much money on DVD's ($150.00).
ALL FEEDBACK IS GREAT FEEDBACK!
Thank you in advance!

It works just as well for women as men. The excercise groupsthey have is split 2 women and 2 men. On some routines they will show an easier way of doing the routine. IMO, good investment. But you will need to get all the accessories, such as weights, pull up bar, resistance bands, push up bars, yoga mat and blocks, and heart monitor. Good luck and bring it!!

1) On average, how many days a week do you work out on their schedule?
A: Every day. Unless something causes me to skip. Then I pick up were I left off.
2) I have Patella Tendonitis. Does the Ply section really hurt my knees?
A: Plyometrics is a jump routine. So be carefull.
3) Is it one of the most effective, NO BS, systems out there?
A: No BS here.

They want you to work out 6 days a week, with one rest day where you can rest or do their stretch x video
2) I have Patella Tendonitis. Does the Ply section really hurt my knees?
Yeah, a lot of jumping in this video. HOWEVER, they do a good job showing variations that are less impact for those with knee issues. The girl in the plyo video does these variations.
3) Is it one of the most effective, NO BS, systems out there?
It is what got me started into weight-lifting. There's too many reps for some of the exercises because they want you to do only bodyweight. But you can modify it by adding weights and doing less reps than they say to do. Some of the exercises with "too many reps" I believe they are doing supersets with anyway. Either way, it's a good way to get into good habits for exercise like writing down the weight and reps of each exercise and keeping track of what you do. I went through 3 months of it. I then moved on to 5X5 routine, but I felt like I was a lot stronger and conditioned well enough with P90X to be able to handle it and do regular lifts with good form. I still do the weights videos once in awhile when I'm stuck at a plateau. The plyo, yoga, stretch videos are used fairly regularly to keep my cardio days interesting. Is it worth it? I think if you are a complete newb like I was with lifting and don't already have good habits of working out regularly, it is. I'm thinking about getting the P90X+ videos. It got me in good shape.

I wasn't RIPPED like the people in the videos. Probably because I didn't follow their eating plan or do ab ripper 3X a week. I was significantly stronger, more flexible, and with more definition though. My vert increased about 4" on the program too.

I bought the videos and i am already extremely active at the gym. I love the plyometrics but it shouldnt be done more than once a week because it can cause injury. But they are really great tapes if u are already active, if you are a beginner i wouldnt reccommend them

I would just add, regarding the $150 for the DVD's, they can be found on ebay for cheaper. I've also read from other threads that if your familiar with Bit Torrent and Torrent sites, you can find them there, not that I would condone that

I think the system is great for teaching veterans some new intensity tricks. However, I had to turn it off after a few minutes because the guy is *incredibly* annoying. He reminds me of every over-zealous, "I'm high on life" trainer I've ever been a co-worker with at a gym who bounces around like a ping pong ball yelling "C'MON GIRL LETS DO THIS!!" Perhaps just a personal gripe from working with these guys. So I muted the videos and watched the techniques and variations which I enjoyed.
So in summary, if your a native of the gym and know your basics, and are looking for something new, I recommend these tapes......silent.....with subtitles

lol!!
I thought the same thing at first, but Tony started growing on me. I didn't know that the audio could be turned off until my 3rd month.
I found him a pretty good motivator to push beyond my comfort zones. I like the verbal queues and tips on technique and form he gives, which when I'm not looking at the screen, helped me a lot. He's more subdued in yoga and stretch too, which is nice.
I still have to laugh whenever he peddles the recovery drink though.

I have been doing P90X for close to 3 months now. I am actually going to be starting the P90X Plus videos next week. I really enjoy the Kenpo X video but found the same thing when I first stated doing it- not intense enough. I now use 5 lb weights (in each hand) when I do the workout, and it changes everything completely! Give it a try with some weight, you may start to like it!!

P90X can work for real every day people. You can be fat and get ripped from it... I was fat and now I have muscle definition. You have to be discipline in your diet, continuing to have a caloric defecit daily while keeping your protein intake high. You also need to work out every day like its the last workout of your life.. 100MPH. If you do that.. you will have results, anything less.. well you will get less results. I dropped 5 pant sizes from a 33W to a 28, and my wife dropped from a size 6 to a 0. Its possible, but you have to want it like you havent wanted anything else before!

I tried the program for a few months and liked it. I burned a lot of fat and I was pleased with all of the results except for my chest. If you decide to not do the program, at least download the ab ripper x video. You can get it for free on limewire. This is a punishing ab workout and to me, this is the ultimate ab workout. Hope this helps!

I've heard good things and not so good things, but ultimately, with all workouts, the best thing that you can do is to get into a program that works for you.

I am just finishing up the first 30 days of P90X and have lost 8 pounds and around 4% Body Fat.
My waist and hips and shrinking and I feel my athletic ability and flexibility is getting better and better.
If you have bad knees you can do the excercises differently with less impact.
This workout will work if you actually do it and don't just go through the motions; as with any workout program.

That's a great point... It's really important for those doing P90X to really push yourself to use heavier weights (that you can handle with clean form). You will not build solid lean muscle mass if you use light weights throughout all the routines. When you lift the weight during the exercises its supposed to be tough to get to 6-8 reps... if you are breezing through it, up your weight. That sore feeling is wonderful!
