New Pics
I had a great workout tonight. Upper Body Power and man was I feeling strong. I had a workout partner for the first time in months and it was perfect because I was feeling strong so I tried some weights I had not had the opportunity to do lately. I did a refeed today and it showed in my strength. My highlights included
Bent Over Rows 255x5
Wide Grip Chins +25x8
Incline Bench 275x5
Standing Barbell Curls 135x6
I am really starting to be able to predict my body and how it responds to certain foods....sweet potatoes give me extra strength and energy for sure....I guess almost doubling my carb intake could also be the culprit...almost 300 grams of carbs today for my refeed...loving that. Here are some post workout pics...amazing what some better lighting, a carb up and good workout can do....

Thanks, I am really glad that I chose Layne to work with. All of the Scivation guys are really helpful so all of my dedication is paying off...not like in the past where my mistakes would cause me to lose momentum in the gym. It's amazing what knowledge and determination combined can get you...Just look at Tommy, Lando, Layne, Marc Lobliner and those guys....its like a revolution going on....Natural guys who have it figured out and are willing to share the knowledge.

Paul how many weeks out are you right now, also how many days a week are you doing intervals? The reason I ask is because I don't want you to have the same issue I did with hamstrings not being up to par with the conditioning of the rest of my body. If you are 10-12 weeks out I'd pass on the idea to layne and see what he thinks of adding another day of intervals on a bike or something to make sure you got those babies sliced up. Everything else is lookin good buddy!

Layne gets an update from me with pics, weight, and he knows all my current stats. I will be 12 weeks out when this week is over. These pics were taken a day after I did legs and they are still a bit swollen. I have been losing weight at a pretty good pace and am on target for my goal weight. Perhaps I will run a few sprints this weekend. I am actually suppose to play volleyball in the sand this weekend.....I still have a good bit of fat to lose and it seems to be lower back and legs....I am sure Layne will make me burn it off before show time.
Thanks for looking out! Cardio tonight for sure now!

You're in the sweet spot for 12 weeks out. Looks like you hve the possiblity of being ready a bit early. Keep that focus tight. You're going to be sliced and diced.

To be honest from the minute I first started it I loved it. I have always found my best results were when I hit a muscle every 3 or 4 days. I could never find a way to accomplish that while going heavy as well as high reps. I would usually go heavy at the beginning of a workout and eventually do higher reps...
Now I can do both in a week, I have actually increased my strength considerably since I hired Layne, once I get into off season mode again I am sure I will increase all my lifts and add a good bit of muscle!

Weekend
Well it was a glorious weekend in Orlando. I spent Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel Pool and Sunday playing beach volleyball. Of course I also got my lifting in as well as cardio. I did drop some weight this week and will be taking update pics tomorrow. Actually got some sun and should be pretty tan by that time.
I went to my buddy's gym this weekend just to check it out. His Gold's has am movie theatre for cardio....no cell phones allowed, dark and a huge movie screen. We watched Catch Me If You Can while riding the bike....I really wish my gym had that.

Impressive
Hey man I'm so glad that I'm back on BBC! Just like others I have just read a lot of your threads and I must say that I am so impressed with you! Your dedication and hard work speaks for it's self...you're looking great.
I've always been told that I have the size and that I should start lifting weights. My thing is that there are so many right and wrong things to do it's so confusing at times. I am 5'9 290lbs. I want to lose weight(I have a gut) but also want to have some muscle to look sexy. As a beginner, What supplements would you suggest? How many days should I lift/cardio? Anything that you can help me with would be great.
Congrat's on all of your success, and man I wish you all the luck on your 1st show, but I think you will do great. I will definitely be rooting for ya!

First off don't over anaylyze things before you get started, just get in the gym and start learning. I am still learning and still keep an open mind about it.
Supplements for a beginner, I would say just a mulitvitamin and Protein Powder. Making sure you get enough protein is probably the toughest thing at first.
If you are 290 with a gut I would suggest lifting 5 days a week and doing cardio 5 days a week as well after your workouts. If you can do cardio in the morning that is great as well. Just get into a routine, watch your diet, lift weights and watch your body change. It's always a good idea to get a trainer or friend to help you out in the beginning, hope this helps.

Yeah Florida is really nice to live in, the only problem is there is so much to do I have to say no to keep my training in line. I could have gone to a new water park this weekend as well but it would have messed my whole day up, and it was leg day!
I think this last 12 weeks I am going to lose extra fat as I begin to get more into volleyball on the weekends. It requires a lot of explosiveness and conditioning to play two man....and I drink Xtend while I play..lol.

Back and Chest and feel like crap!
Monday night was back and chest hypertrophy day. I woke up on Monday with a sore throat and a general ache to my body. After going to work for the first half of the day I decided to go home and try to feel better. I still have my appetite but I have congestion in my head and a general lack of energy. I waited as long as I could to hit the gym but I had to go....
I went very light on everything, kept reps between 12 and 15 and did a lot of pausing to hold the tension. I actually enjoyed the workout. I also did 15 minutes of cardio but was feeling really bad so that was the end.
I am not sure if this is just my body's way of telling me to eat more or what. I did get to 219 on the scale and was excited about this week. Tonight is hypertrophy legs and I still am not feeling very well.
What is the best thing to do? I don't feel completely sick but I have really low energy and a stuffy head...should I take time off? I haven't missed a workout in over a year...

Maybe just a thought,..but after reading your 9 page post you really have been hitting it hard. My first impression was you may be overtraining. I do look at your post for tips but I dont think I will do as many sets as you. I may be wrong and all it may be is just a bug or something,..just my two cents worth.

I think with all the cardio I have been doing, plus lifting, lack of sleep(just a busy life) and being active all weekend I just ran myself down. As far as over training I don't think i have done that yet...I have been making a lot of progress with strength and changing things to keep them fresh.
I plan on taking it a bit easy this week. Going to bed early, and see how that does. 12 weeks out thank god its not closer I would be freakin!
Thanks for your two cents...very valid.

Thanks man that means alot, I really try to have a lot of balance. At my height I don't think I will appear big, but I could appear well balanced and ripped!

Paul, try not to scare all of the "little" guys off stage in 12 weeks. It will be best to avoid eye contact, as you don't want to make any of the other guys cry. You are a beast!

That's pretty funny, I am really just hoping to look good on stage. Based on what I have seen I may actually be a freak up there, I am hoping my physique translates well on stage.
I have been imagining walking around in my sweats before the show and having people look at me like, "what is he doing here, he can't be a bb..lol" I guess this is normal anxiety. I will learn a lot more this weekend. I am meeting with the show promoter to get his opinion...should be interesting.

Why do you say you are sick? Do you have a cold or something more severe like the flu? Either way, you can get through it, just don't push yourself too hard until your body is back on track. Looking pretty freaking sweet for 12 weeks out. Props to you for sure!

I have been achy and congested for two days, zero energy and just overall feeling horrible. Last night I took some NyQuill and slept great. I feel a lot better today, still not back to myself but another good nights rest should do the trick.
Thanks for the comments...getting close to show time!

Thanks for the critique, I feel really skinny in my clothes. It's good to see I am keeping my muscle, thanks for stopping in.
