Hey Ryan, I'm doing the Northern, but I think you already knew that.
Figure - 35+ tall class.
I can't wait, I did this show back in '03 and '04 as a bb'r.

I can't make any predictions set in stone but I will say my stepdad and myself is competing in it. I will be doing the teens and he will be doing the mens open.
He has won the Mr. Kentucky, Bluegrass, Big Dust Classic and competes on the national level

Hey TJ, I'll see you there. No Ryan, I have no idea who my competition is. The classes for masters were not real big and I'm not sure how it will go this year as there are not allowed any crossovers.
Which really, with the size of this show, makes sense. We'll see.

Congrats SCHRINK.
Six Zebra - You looked great onstage!
I enjoyed the show. There are only a few things I would adjust.
I skipped Pre-judging and went to the Finals.
My girlfriend and I did not stay the whole night to watch all the competitors. The major issue was having to watch all the competitors do the Pre-judging routines, then wait for the Finals routines. I only wanted to watch the finalists.
From a competitor standpoint how do you feel about this?

Thanks Ryan. Looks are deceiving. I felt like crap.
It was a very looooong day. From a competitor standpoint, I do NOT want to go through that again. Don't get me wrong, it was a great show and run with military precision, which I can appreciate.
What I can't take is the length of time I had to put in for the figure pre-judging. Here's the deal. Just because I'm figure doesn't mean I trained/dieted any less than anyone else. So on show day, I have to pump up just like the guys - and do it twice. Then I have to do it again 2 X at night!
Add to that figure is first on - last off. So its a very long day. I know its a long day from a spectator standpoint too.
This is kinda unique to this particular show though as the number of competitors was something like 255.
Here are two things that if I could I would change:
1. Figure pre-judging friday night, finals on Saturday. AND NO 1/4 turn comparisons at the finals!
Now clearly this is an expensive event to put on. Renting the convention center for an additional evening would be quite costly.
2. And this point I feel most strongly about - DO AWAY WITH THE ONE-PIECE IN FIGURE!!!
Color it however you want - the one-piece round is stupid AND absolutely not necessary to judge symetry, color, muscle tone. This is a physique show for crying out loud. Its extremely expensive and covers up most people's most coveted possession - their abs!
Hell a 2-piece alone can run several hundred dollars. The one-piece - up to several thousand dollars. So not only does a one-piece cover up your abs - its costs you hundreds and hundreds of dollars to do that!
A lot of figure competitors feel the same way so I'm not alone.

I agree 100% with you on all accounts. The show is far too long for all involved. This would be a much better show if the figure went Friday night. Of course, all problems would be solved if the one piece round was eliminated. Body builders are judged in their two piece only, why should figure and fitness be any different? It's also impossible to get a great pump four times in a day. Perhaps all the figure competitors should complain to the NPC.

I'm sure they've heard these arguments. My thoughts on the NPC getting rid of the one-piece are that it might happen eventually but for now, well, I personally think its both political/Big money.
The top suitmakers are getting thousands for one-piece suits. Now can you imagine the NPC saying no more one-piece? Holy crap!
As far as complaining to the NPC, well I believe we are doing just that by posting on here. As I said earlier, many girls have complained about the one-piece for the exact same reasons. But its going to take the few to step up and speak out and try to change things. Afterall, its OUR sport. The IFBB has outspoken reps. Who represents us amatuers?? In a fair and unbiased manner? I really don't know.

6-Z Those are great points. I also agree with you on the one-piece. Thank you and Simpy for your thoughts.

Jealousy....I am very proud of every one of you...I so wanted to be on the stage and I know I had no one to blame except myself...my mom passed around Christmas and I let it drag me down and I should have used her illness as an inspiration and do it for her....but hopefully, I will be back on track...I am happy for all of you...hope to meet you someday...can someone tell me about competitions in my own state and how to find them so I can go see what to expect. I live in FL and want to do a 40+ figure...thanks...and congrats to all of you!!! You did it (for me too)

Sorry to hear about your mother.
To find shows in your area you can check here:
www.npcnewsonline.com
or do a search using words bodybuilding and your state. You should get a ton of hits.
Best of luck!

I stand corrected on the one-piece.
I stand corrected on the reason for having a one-piece in figure competitions. After discussing my displeasure of this to a show promoter and area vicechairman I was educated on the history of figure and specifically why they wear a one-piece.
If i understand this correctly, figure was started as a competition for girls who don't care to have the big muscular look, more of a fitness model look. so basically figure is judged on a physique that is between a model and fitness. Hence the one and two piece judging. That's as basic as I can explain it. It makes sense now.
Sorry if i offended anyone by my blunt opinions.
