pre and post workout meals

How long before a workout should I have my preworkout meal for it to be effective?

Within what timeframe should I have my post workout meal. I ask this question as I usually have a meal in the canteen near my gym and usually I start the meal between 30 and 60 mins after working out.

The reason behind my post is I usually workout in the morning around 9 - 9.30. As I have a meal every 3 hours plus or minus my first meal (breakfast) is my preworkout meal and my second meal (if I can get to the canteen quickly) is my post workout meal. I just wanted to know if I have my timing right. Thanks for the reply.

Sorry to be boring but after looking at my eating schedule I see I have breakfast 6.30-7.00

(70 gr oats/1/2 non-fat milk/2 slices of bread/2 egg whites/coffee)

Would that be O.K. for my preworkout meal - workout starts between 9-9.30,

or maybe I should have an bigger breakfast.

Let the man himself tell you how its done

pre-workout 20-30 minutes before hand i would have a Protein + Carb meal, if its over an hour.. add some fats

Post-workout shake/meal RIGHT when you get back

Post - post workout meal 60-90 minutes after that

what works best for me is 1:30 hours before (lentils and slice of black bread)
and 10 minutes after (anything with 35+ grams of protein and quick carbs) usually a shake or a turkey sandwich

Try a a shake a hour 45 mins before a workout with a caffiene boost?
drink water through out the workout to aid with fat loss and energy transfer, put some major protein into you within a hour of finishing, low carb and fat shake

Say no to cadio!
