A normal girl or Heather Armbrust........

Hmmm.. in my own defense I think that is a slightly ignorant comment and you make me sound like a monster cause Im not a 'normal girl' in your opinion. Other than competing as a pro bb and loving lifting heavy with the boys Im pretty normal. And to assume I get dirty looks? Jeez! I get a lot of looks but not all are bad.
People need to do what is right FOR THEM and leave everyone else alone. Conformist have a way of condeming or judging anyone that is not like them or what they think is right.
Im not trying to open of an argument but just state my opinion. For the record I do often wish I could blend in. Cant have your cake and eat it too.

Thank you for coming in and setting that idiot straight Mrs. Armbrust (Congratulations on the marriage!) It always seems like it is the younger guys that want to condemn fbb's fro some idiotic reason! Thank you for being a role model for many and I wish you all the best at this year's Olympia!

Girl, you are an absolutely stunning beauty. I'm sure if anyone stares at you it's because they are completely unaccustomed to seeing a woman that has developed such obviously high physical standards of beauty and strength. You really are an inspiration.
You are so right about leaving people to do what is right for them and doing your own thing. Thanks for posting

One thing I learned only recently is that cheating or missing a workout sometimes is actually GOOD for you. As you know, the demands we place both physically and psychologically are extremely high and it is a fine balancing act that keeps it all together and allows us to make progress.
One of the BEST things you can do is look at your 'cheats' as positive steps. Remember, stress comes in many forms and is CATABOLIC! If you stress yourself about a cheat meal or a missed workout, that will have a catabolic effect on you making things worse.
Everyone needs to allow space in their schedules for cheats. Also, missing a workout or having a cheat meal can actually help your body to recover if you allow yourself to enjoy those freedoms! Your mind is more powerful than your body and is in control of how your body responds. If you have a stress free and happy mind, you will make greater progress and be even happier

Heather, I realise you have been here since mid 2007 but I only just discovered you are a member here. So, a belated welcome aboard and congratulations on your marriage
I absolutely agree with your post too. VERY well said. I find it interesting that an 18 year old male says, ".....at the end of the day i can walk down the street looking decent in good shape and not get dirty looks.......call me a sheep if you will but some things are just worth conforming for."
Oh dear!!! Boy has much to learn! I guess he is only 18 though
Keep up the awesome work hon. You have been a big inspiration to me for a long time now. You look amazing!

Hi Heather nice to see you here. I think you are a rolemodel of a modern bodybuilder for many here.
And good said. Many people think that women with muscles have not women soul.... but also not men soul - so we are probbably aliens for them .
Welcome again

Thanks Titania.
I think that sometimes it is good to do things bad, beacuse it opens your eyes.
In this moment I am training hard and I am sticked on the diet and dialy schedule. And I see new good improvements. Just today morning I was very happy to see my leg muscles are better visible than ever.
So I am back on the track. Now I believe it.

Heather I hope its OK I used you as an example. Its just that I was watching your video segment from the '07 Olympia prep with you saying to be 166 on stage and while I was reading his post it just popped in my head.
BTW my gf Bronwyn tells me you have the same origin as us :-)

Hey everybody! I've been away from the computer for a few days and saw that this thread is way down at the bottom of the page!! So here I am bumping it back up to the top, and hoping that training and diet and everything's going well for everyone here. And it's so cool that we've hit fifty here with the addition of a well-known personality like Heather!!
I've spoiled myself this past week and splurged on 10-cent used copies of female bodybuilding books from used bookstores: I figured I'd look WAAAAY back to the beginning of things and ordered "Lisa Lyon's Body Magic" for some perspective on how the whole sport initially was launched mainstream; and Negrita Jayde's "Supervixen" just came in the mail today. Negrita looks like a totally different person when she's in her off-season, so powerful and voluptuous! I was so surprised at the difference since she's so rock-hard in her dieted-down condition!!
What are some other classic female bodybuilding books that I can look into some other time? I may have some of them already but I'd love to hear your opinions on them, anyway!

Feeling kinda sheepish as I post this..
Up till this point, I've had NO real direction when it came to lifting. I'd lift what I wanted, when I wanted. As a kid, this meant leg pressing everyday.. sometimes twice a day if challenged to (dared to lift heavier, asked to show someone how much I could lift) or bored. I still have HUGE quads under the fat.
Lately, I took a bit of an addiction to shoulders/biceps, so I've been doing that whenever I felt like it or was bored. No set exercises, just grabbing some dumbbells and going at it.
I've been MEANING to get together a program since I started mid Jan.. but I'm a horrific procrastinator.
Anyway, this weekend I opened up word perfect and set out a daily plan from Yesterday till the end of June. Each day has the body parts, the exercises, etc. Each monday has a spot for weight and measurements. The back page has a chart of goal weights, and spaces for me to enter dates reached.
I feel so organized now!
So Monday I started.. it was Back/Hamstrings/Calves. I realized I've never actually done anything to target back - and I felt it in places I didn't know I would, lol. At first I was thinking I screwed up, so I looked it up - nope, seems like I hit everything where I was supposed to!
Today is Shoulders / Triceps / Abs. Yay for everything but abs! LOL.

Old old quarrels and haters are still alive. Yesterday I had a very bad quarrel with one noob. I am still down because of it today, feeling sad
I would like to break my precontest now - but I will continue in diet and training on and on. But I will try to prepare more carefully, because I can not be only "better" or "little bit better" or "equal" to other competitors. The hate against me is too big and I have to be the best of the best when I want to be rated honestly. I have to be "uncompareable" to others. It is very hard decision and it will take a lot of time and pain, but it is the only way.
So I will see, but I really want to kick somebody ass now - on the next show.

Count me in!
Twice if possible! I've just started weightlifting so won't bore anyone with my current abilities, but wanted to cheer the women on, like me, who want to gain as much muscle as they can.
I also want to build some serious muscle - how much depends on effort, nutrition and genetics, of course. I'm sure, even now, I'm stronger than some men, and will never be as strong or big as some, but so what? Last time I checked, bodybuilding was about our own personal best.
Seems to me a lot of this discussion has to do with sexual stereotyping, ie women should be a certain way to differentiate from men. The only difference between me and a guy is I have two XX chromosomes. Surely, in 2008, we're beyond having to look a certain way, or be demure, weak, and wear pink frilly things because we were born women. C'mon now. Do you think the men who have issue with us might also have issue with women they can't have power over? Hmm.... And how is this any different from women having the job they want or any other life goals? My advice on our naysayers? Just tune them out. They aren't worth our time.
Anyone bodybuilding (or seriously into any sport for that matter) is doing so within the capabilities of their own bodies and their own personal tastes as to goals, so the big deal is what? Fitness bodybuilding seems to be suited to certain body types, if you ask me. My Polish farm tractor build and personal taste has me heading toward as much muscle mass as I can gain.
So here's a big vote of admiration for women who want or have big muscles, and consider me a card carrying member of that club!

Welcome to the club, not all men here are critical of this thread. There are a handful of us who encourage and motivate these beautiful sexy women to become the best that they can be and now of course you are now one of those women. Keep reaching for the stars.

Wow! We hit 50+ now! I've been away from here for so long, it's great to come back and see this thread still alive!
One of the girls on the junior volleyball team I coach showed me that even at age 14, a girl can still want muscle. I resorted to making them do pushups when they tried to pass a ball with one had when two would be just as easy & far more accurate. As the one girl was pumping out her pushups, she said "I love pushups, they give me MUSCLES and I want BIG muscles."
Almost made me cry.

Seems to me a lot of this discussion has to do with sexual stereotyping, ie women should be a certain way to differentiate from men. The only difference between me and a guy is I have two XX chromosomes.
LOL.

Sounds like you have a plan now and your off to a great start! I am equally as enthusiastic about abs lol

Good idea to take that azz kickin' energy and direct it towards your comp. Don't feel sad, feel powerful

an outsiders view..
I'm a "biger" guy, I love so much women who are health concious and train, its almost a requirement for me to consider her as relationship material... But with that said, I don't want a girl who is too big, or has goals to be really big. Any thing past 5'8 145lbs to me is too big. On the flip side, I have so much respect for any person, or any female who can dedicate them self to this sport to the same degree as my self. i can picture my self being great friends with many females in bbing, but thats where it would end. But I'm sure you ladies don't do it or want it for male attention, if that were the case you would probably be going for some thing else am I right? I just wanted to share my input as a bber guy if you will.

OK, but thats it. Although you will never have FBB as a girlfriend - you admire those women who trains for the sport. You know what it takes.
Each person prefere something else in the normal life - it is normal.
But I hate those people who have to have negative comments to it and very offten they have absolutely no idea how hard this sport may be. You know it. You look well and you are friend with FBB....

You know what's cool? I even have a plan for AFTER this plan!
I've had a pic of Hugh Jackman (from one of the X Men movies) on my screen as inspiration since I started. (Knowing that I obviously won't get that far, but hey..inspiration AND eye candy at once?). A couple days ago, I started wondering what he did to get that way, and googled a crapload of info about what he did.
I'm gonna give myself till July, doing variations of what I just started...but then I'm gonna try doing what HE did. I'm curious to see what it does for me, but want to be in much better shape / past the 200lb mark when I start!
