help im skinny fat :(
hi could anybody advise what i should do bulk for a bit or keep on cutting? im new to lifting i previously had lost 28 pounds with diet and cardio and im shrinking away to nothing. i still have a fat gut but im worried that by the time the belly has gone il be a skinny nothing which i really dont want. my girlfriend commented on how "scrawny" i looked last week and the more fat i lose the scrawnier i will get. so what should i do bulk up for a while some muscle or carry on cutting (to nothing)?
my stats are:
height:5' 10"
weight: 170 pounds
arms: 13 inch
chest: 38 inch
waist at navel: 37 inch
legs: 23.5 inch
calves: 16 inch
thanks for replies guys i appreciate it

looks like posture could have a lot to do with it... any truth to that?

well it can help pull your stomach in a little bit...
sucks the position you are in though.. but in all honestly, its much better to be skinny than fat, so you might wanna keep cuttin til your belly is gone, then bulk back up again. Maybe the gut is left over from you being alittle bigger and once you get it taken care off, it'll go away?

Definitly need to start adding some lean mass bro. Just keep your diet clean and get on a good lifting routine and you should start to see some changes for the better.

Your posture is horrible man, sorry to sound mean, but its really bad, you pretty much have no curve in your neck anymore and your shoulders are well rounded. if your girfriend is making comments you know have some problems, i wouldnt worry about cutting down right now, improving your posture would help tremendously, i would try to gain some muscle if i were you first. do a lot of rowing moves and back exercises to help with your posture, also conciously pull your shoulders back and down, its a lot of work, but its worth it.

37 inch waist? You are not skinny fat my friend. You are FAT.
Start lifting and you'll get lean.

I would look at something called keto. It's under the nutrition forum subsection. I would call myself still skinny fat and I have gone from 173 to 157lbs while maintaining and slightly increasing some of my lifts.

Out of all my goals for 2009, a BW barbell bench for reps is the most insane one that I have.

x2.
Also, stretch out your chest cavity, along with your shoulders. You need to go from the pic on the left to the one on the right:
chest stretch: http://www.webefit.com/Stretch/Str_13.html
And don't forget to strengthen and tighten up your back. Rows, pulldowns, pullups, etc.

a
eat 6 meals aday, have protein with every meal, make sure your protein portion is bigger is bigger than the carb portion, this will get the metab speeding up to eat up that belly fat, and i would drink a protein shake as a meal everyday too. i also suggest circuiut training. check out the abs diet, i think it is one of the best diets around to gain lean muscle. and it is easy plus u eat all day. i have been doing a modified version of it for a little over a month now with amazing results. oh and, Stop drinking beer!

A few other questions: what kind of reps/sets scheme did you use? How much did you lift when you started and how much can you lift now (bench/press/squat)?

Keep doing what you're doing untill you're at a happy bodyfat and then add some carbs and fat and get clean bulking.

cheers guys, for sets and reps i started of at 2 sets between 8-12 reps but have now moved to 3 sets 6-10 reps. the weight i use is laughable really so i wont post is, the picture makes me look bigger than what i am but i assure you i am a small framed person. what i can tell you is my bench doubled, added 30 lbs to my squat, 25 to my deadlift and can now do full dips 8 weeks ago i could not.
