Hi I'm new too!
Just joined this week! I've been weight lifting since high school and have never bothered with what I ate. It has become ACTION time for me this year on nutrition! I was only eating maybe 1-2 meals a day for as long as I can remember. This past week I've been reading the posts and adding meals and supplements and have gained 4 more pounds. I am determined though to get it off and make great progress this year. I am so glad to have found this site. You guys are really inspiring me!

I'm new here, too. I've never lifted weights in my life, but I want to start and am hoping to gain some definition, so I've been busy reading.
I'm looking forward to talking to y'all.

Hi everybody. I have lifted off and on since mid-80s but have never stuck with it. I have always been able to eat what ever I want and hardly gain any weight but could never develop muscle mass when I did work out. Now I am getting that proverbial spare tire which makes me lookeven skinnier up top, wide in the middle and really scrawny below. All of you look great and what I am hoping to look like sooner than later so I can stay healthy and strong into my later years. I hope you all can give me encouragment and help me make lasting changes this time!

New kid on the block
Hi to all. I'm 38 and have been bb on/off since I was 21. the most serious was when i was between 23 and 30 when i attended school. i have been going to the gym 5 days a week during my lunch break from work since around the beginning of Jan. my workout first consisted or treadmill walking for a .25 miles then running for .75. I recently increased the running to 1.00 miles, sometimes 1.25 miles. my lifting was a little sketchy, i would just do some chest/back one day, the arms and legs another. abs would be at home when i had a chance. currently i supp. with multivit, whey, fish oil and creatine. in january i was 227 lbs. Now i'm 224 lbs. 5'7" tall. I look lighter than my weight, (everyone says). i guess i have big bones (lol). i want to get down to at least 200 lbs. while packing on lean muscle. i was 180 lbs. at one point, but way too skinny for my large frame, wasn't healthy looking. i am married with two great boys. thanks for your time and i really love this website.

Hi all, I did post on here a few years ago a couple of times but since it's been so long I thought I would do an intro post again. I have been "playing" with weights since I was 16 but have not stuck to it for long periods of time over the years. I plan on getting back into it more as a lifestyle now...mybe it is because I am over 40 now or something...I don't know. The last few months I have kind of been obsessed on finding the most energy enhancing, healthy diet and thought I better get back into weight training/bodybuilding to go along with it. Great to be here and a great forum!!

Hello. This is my first post on here
Hello. My name is Mike, I am 40 years old and I have just in the last year and a half or so decided to stop being a fat slob.
Starting in April of 2006 I changed my life.I weighed 310 pounds and looked and felt horrible.
I started eating right, bought a Nordic Track Elliptical trainer and started using it every night. 9 months later I weighed 150 pounds. That's 160 pounds lost. But, I also looked scrawny and maybe a bit too thin in the face. So, I increaed my caloric intake a bit and started using weights. I bought some for home use but out grew them pretty fast.
Now, I am primarily weights for working out, I still use the Nordic Track some but in the warm months I ride my mountain bike a lot. Some weeks I ride upward of 300 miles. I love to bike.
I bought a book entitled "The New High Intensity Training" by Ellington Darden and I have been using it for a work out guide now for a month or more. I have seen some improvements and now that I am able to go to the gym and really use some heavy weights, I hope to see even more.
I don't want to be a professional body builder. I don't want to be huge....not real huge anyway....just bigger than I am and I want to be stronger and look better. I already look a world better than I did a year and a half a go. I want some definition to my muscles and I would love to have a flatter stomach but, I understand that at 40 years old and having been a big fat guy for so long, that may never happen to the degree I would like.
I look forward to hearing from all of you and learning as much as I possibly can.
I just bought a membership to the gym in my town and am using it and finding that I am stronger than I thought. I was able to leg press 400 pounds last night for 10 reps with pretty good form.
So, I look forward to interacting with all of you!
Mike

Hello to all. My name is John and its good to be here with all of you. Lifting has been a part of my live since the age of 14. I'll be 40 in June. I have been a off and on lifter most of those years. I'd get in shape then get busy in life and leave it by the side. The last 13 yrs I haven't lifted or exercised at all. BIG mistake! I went from a lean 193 to over 270lbs. I quit smoking in Sept of 07 and started eating like crazy. I decided that if I was going to be healthy enough to quit the cigs than I'd better get my ass back to the gym.
I started this "transformation" on Jan 7 of 08 and thus far have made some decent progress. 15 lbs and 4" in my waist to start. I've put on some muscle and can feel the tone even though I can't see it yet.LOL (you heavy folks know what I mean.) During this process I've been contemplating what is my motivation? I thought about the whole competition and performance angle and then it hit me, as I was day dreaming about being able to feel comfortable without a shirt on again....
In soon to be 14yrs of my daughters life I have never been able to go to the pool with her because I've always been embarassed about my weight. I don't feel comfortable with man boobs and a big gut droopin' over my shorts for the world to see. So by my birthday on June 12 I'm trying to give my self an intangible gift of being a complete "Dad", and being able to take my daughter to the pool for a day of memories. The more tangible gift is, a body fat % of 14%. No weight goals/strength goals ect. The proof is in the tape not in the scale.
Hope to be a source of help and support to all of you age challanged people in the future.

Hello. I joined today. I started on a weight loss plan about a year and a half ago, after initially failing the first few months, I had a runaway success. March will be my 1st year anniversary I've lost 80 pounds, and now it is time for me to have more ambitious fitness goals. This site looks great with inspiring examples and excellent advice. I look forward to meeting new people and progressing in my own transformation.

I guess I should make my intro here even though I've already posted a couple times.
I've been training for 19 years and competing in BB since '92. It's a lifestyle for me and not just a hobby as many health problems run in my family so I'm doing whatever I can to prevent or at least hold off those issues.
I compete in BB simply because I love how it makes me look and feel. I started out wanting to look like the guys in the late 80's muscle magazines (Flex). I recently won the overall masters BB at the Rocky Mountain in Denver and that alone was one of the best accomplishments in my life.

too little vs too much
I'm new to this, so would you please explain how it's better to "do too little than too much!" It might help with some of my frustrations! I strength train 6 days a week with cardio 1 hour (6 days a week). Thanks! Mercedes

It's great to see women on here!! They can probably give the best advice for figure competitors! I don't expect to look anything like you Wildcat- just starting out! Almost embarrassed to post a pic after seeing yours!!

Hello to all you fitness, bodybuilding, work out warriors!!
I am Mike, i am also new the site as a poster, been an avid long time reader. I have worked out off and on for over 25 years, had my share of injuries in recent years, neck surgery and back surgery, left arm severe atrophy at one point from nerve damage. I was an Infantry Scout Sniper for over 10 years in the Va Army National Guard. I love to workout, not trying to be anything special, just looking forward to staying very active and healthy later in life, actually have energy and stamina for when those grandkids start coming to visit. I tend to vary my workouts alot, I will lift awhile, then do lots of calisthenics, stair step one day, trail run the next time out, i tend to eat healthy most of the time, but have been know to eat a dorito or 12 , i have used supplements at times, the best ones being Creatine Mono, Whey, CLA for body fat reduction. I look forward to the continued great advice, ideas, shared in this forum!
Just trying to be my VERY BEST!!
