Sauna Purpose and use

Ok I know this is not really workout equipment, but I figured this is as good a thread as any to put this in. I never used one and my gym has one so whats the advantages to using a sauna and when is the best time to use it Pre-workout or Post-Workout?

Thanks

Saunas and steam rooms have been mentioned here 2-3 times in the past month or so but I don't ever recall seeing them mentioned prior to that. I'm guessing there must have been an article in Muscle & Fiction about them or something. I read a post somewhere about an alleged increase in protein synthesis as a result of using them. Whatever, I didn't even bother researching it. Using one is not going to be the reason someone develops 18" arms vs. 14" arms, or squats 500 lbs vs. 300 lbs.

In my opinion most people who use saunas don't even know why they're using them, they're just something that's "supposed to be good for you" so they use them. Pre-workout? No way.

They are supposed to be good for helping you sweat out body toxins. I'd rather do my sweating working out or doing cardio.

Dry saunas are made to keep you from cooling down while you drink your shake and let it settle before you pound the cardio!

I am looking into these: http://www.sunlightsaunas.com/signature-1.htm

FAR INFRARED - supposed to be therapeutic beyond the basic benefit of heat as a muscle relaxant

Hmmm...

But, that gets me thinking (back to the sodium topics). If I sweat in a sauna, perhaps I can eat more salty foods???

Hmmm...
