*Seasonings*
I have incorporated brown rice into my diet and I was wondering what seasonings yall use when preparing brown rice? I'm interested in ideas from others...I prepared some the other day and couldnt think of what would go good on it so I ate it plain like it was.
thanks for commenting

Stir fry is great on brown rice. Veggie, beef, chicken, whatever you like.
Also curry. I eat brown rice like I would eat white rice.

whilst this is absolutely fine and yes I treat brown rice like I would rice
bigblockchevy wasn't asking how to use it in a meal I'm sure she knows what meals to use it with she was asking about seasonings which you generally tend to add to the cooking process to give the rice a little flavour

I just went crazy with herbs and spices when I was shopping the other day and found a pilau rice herb shaker, which added a lot of flavour to the rice (I find that youhave to use quite a lot of bouillon to give flavour, = high sodium)

oh ouch okay not a good idea then. well ya know I had bought some wild rice that had the seasonings already in the package and the seasonings are awesome gonna find the ingredients and gather them up and try that. this herb shaker you add all your herbs to it shake it up and add to your rice. sounds interesting I dont know much about herbs very little lol

If you're from the US then I don' t know, but here in the UK they have like herb and spice sections in the big supermarkets - lots of choice. But I do like the bouillon and think so long as you're not adding salt to everything, a little is ok.

tse just be careful with those because they have a lot of added sodium (salt) which you don't need - plus preservatives etc
if you can go natural then go for it
I like the idea of adding fresh herbs direct into your food that definitely makes it more tasty but that you would do after it's been cooked of course
Boulion is great again I know you can find the halal version which again is better for you and less salt again I believe

Throw in a bag of flavored herbal tea while the rice is cooking. It's a light flavor, but really good. My current favorite is orange spice.

Here's a recipe for cooking brown rice that I use. I got it off of the recipe thread on this site. It really adds a lot of flavor to the rice.
3 cups cooked brown rice
1.5c peas and carrots
15 eggwhites (I believe I only use half of this)
crushed garlic cloves
.25c chopped onions
Spray Pam in pan and add crushed garlic cloves. Fry on medium heat until fragrant, then add peas and carrots. Continue for about 10mins, remove and pour into a bowl. Spray some more pam, add chopped onions and eggwhites in pan. Fry until cooked. Then add the brown rice, eggwhites and bowl of peas & carrots together. Mix them well.

I usually just do plain, but that's an interesting idea that I'll have to try out of curiousity.

bigblockchevy, I like to use a few different spices throughout the day. I would suggest the following spices due to their benefits on your body:
-anise: it's a diuretic and it boosts antioxidant levels. it's definately got an interesting taste, not everyone might like it.
-cayenne pepper: it's a thermogenic and energizer. it's really hot but i love spicy foods
-cumin: it's detoxifier. this one is my all time favorite spice. it makes everything taste like mexican food. i put it on EVERYTHING...my omelettes, sanwiches, chicken breasts, salads, veggies...
if you wanna know more about these spices and more, i would suggest the book, Fat Flush Foods. it's very informative and to the point.

I love spices, especially cayenne pepper and cumin
what type of dishes do you typically make with anise?
also I guessing you put your spices on after the rice has been cooked because wouldn't the water just kill it?

Sometimes I make Brushchetta Brown Rice where I basically use some tomatoes, basil, red onion, olive oil and balsamic vinegar and use it as a topping for the brown rice.

because white rice is so processed it's no longer good for you - brown or wild rice is far healthier option

brown rice, made with chicken stock, and "steakhouse grinders" for seasoning. very good with chicken mixed in. or even some cut up flank steak.
I always have a problem getting my rice properly done, sometimes I over cook it, sometimes its under cooked. blah.

Add diced chicken, a diced tomato, a few diced olives, green onions and some italian seasonings (you can usually just find this whith the spices at your grocery store and its just called Italian seasoning) very yummy. I buy the Morton and bassett brand which is all natural, salt free, no MSG, no preservatives, and non-irradiated. It contains Basil, coriander, garlic, paprika, oregano, onion, sage, parsley, thyme, and black pepper. It is SO good on so many things. You can also use it as a dry rub on grilled meats, I sprinkle it on salad. And its def an added bonus that is is aalt free.
