Hangover Relief
I read somewhere in these replies that drinking water while drinking alcohol helps alleviate hangovers. If memory serves me correct, I learned that alcohol shuts down the bodies ability to absorb water, hence, frequent urination while drinking...the body gets rid of it instead of digests and absorbs it.
One hangover relief I heard of was cactus extract from the 'tuna' plant.

absolute remedy for hangover .............2 advil and 2 nodoze (caffine)
Large Ice water
The advil kills the pain, the caffine thins the blood and the water hydrates you. You will feel better in no time. THIS REALLY IS THE BEST CURE I HAVE COME ACROSS, thankfully, I don't drink like I used to. Try to learn to drink in moderation and enjoy the next day!

Totw 151
Here's my contribution to this week's TOTW. Enjoy your whisky!
-The clean version is attached below!
Hopefully the holiday hangovers have taught us not to drink too much. If not, maybe we've learned a way to drink and avoid the next morning?s effects.
What is the best cure for a hangover?
A night out on the town is always a great way to loosen up after a hard week of work and a full set of workouts. The problem with this is that the next morning tends to be usually less than enjoyable. This is what is traditionally called a ?hangover.?
Now, the goal of this article is to talk about the ways to cure this dreaded condition, but in order to do that, we must first define the problem.
Now, a hangover is a self-inflicted condition which typically consists of a few different symptoms such as headache, nausea, moodiness, as well as an overall feeling of being tired. A hangover is actually caused by dehydration in the body, Acetaldehyde intoxication, hypoglycemia, and an overall lack of the vitamin B12 in the body. (1) Now this is all based on scientific suspicion, so there still is a little bit of experimentation necessary to find the most effective cure for yourself. But there are a few general concrete natural occurrences that will happen that essentially make up a classic hangover:
First, a hangover can?t be ?cured? until the toxins and remnants of alcohol have left the body. One of the main toxins that are in the body in excess is acetaldehyde. This organic compound is essentially what the liver turns ethanol (alcohol) into before turning it into the harmless substance acetic acid (which is most commonly found in vinegar, but it harmless to the body.) (1) Since the body does not under normal circumstances have to deal with excess amounts of alcohol, the liver isn?t able to convert massive amounts of alcohol into harmless products as quickly as some of our other biological processes.
Secondly, alcohol is a diuretic. This is because alcohol has an inhibiting effect on the body?s ADH production (Anti-diuretic hormone.) (2) This hormone is one of the key factors in the body?s ability to retain water, meaning that without this hormone, you would pee every five minutes. This is exactly why you have to pee so often when you?re drinking. Now, this can?t really be readily stopped, so as long as you?re drinking, you will be losing water at a rapid rate. And no, holding your pee in (not ?breaking the seal?) doesn?t stop this water loss. Your bladder will continue to fill as water leaves your bloodstream.
Third, alcohol causes changes in digestive patterns. This is the major cause of the nausea involved with alcohol intoxication. Normally, there is a constant flow of food products into waste products that are then excreted from the body. Partially due to the changes in hydration in the small intestine, the contents of the small and large intestine can come to a halt or even move in the opposite direction. (3) Now nausea is a very general symptom in the body which is intended to let the person experiencing it know that something is not right in the body, so be wary because nausea can be a representative of something more serious than a hangover, so if symptoms don?t subside within 24 hours of your last drink, be sure to seek medical attention.
Finally, alcohol inhibits the body?s ability to break down nutrients into usable molecules by decreasing the secretion of digestive enzymes from the pancreas. (4) This is due to the stress that is placed on the body with the excess of alcohol circulating around. Alcohol is toxic to the body, so the body essentially puts all of its efforts into the removal of it, and it?s toxins from the body. This is one of the reasons that alcoholics look so malnourished. Although alcohol provides more calories per gram than protein and carbohydrates, alcoholics can?t absorb the nutrients in addition to the vitamins.
Now, since we?ve looked at what happens to the body during the condition we call a hangover, we see that there are a few possibilities in attempting to cure a hangover:
1. Drink plenty of fluids
Dehydration is the easiest of all of the problems a hangover brings to deal with. Depending on your body type and the amount of alcohol consumed, the amounts of fluids necessary to re-hydrate the body can vary. Now people will argue what to drink, but is seems that clear liquids seem easiest on the stomach. Water, drinks with added electrolytes such as Gatorade or Cytosport Cytomax are my suggestions. Basically, if you wake up with a hangover, drink more than you think you need. Basically this will aid in recovering from a hangover in two ways. The first is that it will re-hydrate the body, while the second is that the extra fluid will aid in the excretion of the toxins and metabolic byproducts. So drink your favorite beverage, it will speed your recovery.
2. Take a multivitamin. Now as an avid health-conscious reader of the articles of bodybuilding.com, you should already be taking a multivitamin to aid in your muscular gains, but if you?re not, a hangover is an essential time to get the proper amounts of vitamins and minerals. Since alcohol doesn?t allow normal nutrient absorption, you really need to be taking a multivitamin. I advise the Universal Nutrition?s Animal Pak as multivitamin, and not only for hangover recovery, but for regular daily use.
3. Avoid painkillers if you?ve had a drink within 12-14 hours. Painkillers and alcohol most certainly do not mix. Oddly, many people suggest them as the ultimate hangover cure. No!!! Combining alcohol and the common painkiller Ibuprofen has side effects such as bleeding stomach, inflammation, or even permanent ulceration. (5) Alcohol remains in the body for approximately 24 hours after consumption, but is relief from one headache really worth permanent stomach problems? No it isn?t. So if you want to take painkillers to relieve some of the suffering, wait as long as possible, ideally 12 hours of so, where the alcohol has had the chance to leave the digestive system.
4. Relax! Take it easy! Hopefully you don?t have work the day after successfully drinking your Aunt Helga under the table. But one more thing, remember that alcohol remains in your body for almost 24 hours after consuming them. So when you wake up the morning after a night of heavy drinking? You are almost certainly still over the legal limit, and shouldn?t drive anywhere. So if you plan on getting pulled over on the way home, you could be arrested with a DWI charge. And no I?m blowing steam up your behind here. One of my good friends got a DWI the morning after a night of beer pong without even being drunk. So be careful!
How can you avoid a hangover the next morning?
Prevention is always a good way to avoid problems. Obviously, as you have guessed the simplest way to avoid a hangover is to not drink. Now that seems like a cop-out but it really is an option. Just nominate yourself the designated driver and you?ll have no problem dealing with criticism on ?Why you?re not drinking.? But this is not really the goal of the article here.
Personally, the most effective preventative measure that I have found is to drink as much water as you can before lying down to pass out for the night. This aids in preventing the dehydration part of the hangover, even though you might have to do a lot of waking up to pee during the night. Since the presence of toxins and other physiological changes that alcohol causes can?t be prevented, it?s good to take advantage of the fact that dehydration can be. Although typically I wouldn?t drink water right before bed for fear of having to wake up during the night multiple times to ??relieve myself?, it?s much better than the alternative. I would certainly take being tired in the morning due to waking multiple times than a wicked hangover.
BONUS QUESTION: What do you think is the best remedy to help avoid/cure a hangover?
This whole article essentially answers this question, but I will paraphrase the general ideas shown above.
-First, drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration and aid in flushing toxins from the body.
-Second, be sure to take a multivitamin the morning after a night of drinking. It will supply essential nutrients that are lost and supply the vitamins and minerals necessary for proper body functions to resume.
-Finally, take it easy the day after. Hangovers are a rough thing to deal with, but time remains the ultimate and unarguable cure. Although you may think you are suffering more than imaginable, remember that it will pass, and that you inflicted it upon yourself. Then drink more water and relax.
Thanks for Reading!

Hangover cure
References..I like it.
Anyway,
There is no cure, you will feel better in the amount of time it takes your body to metabolize the alcohol you drank. Food can help, but makes the vast majority of people feel worse. So there it is, there's no cure...only time.
A tip though, don't train your legs to hard and then get real drunk...Thats like french frieing when you are suppose to pizza...if you do that, you're gonna have a bad time.

I am blessed with the ability to get drunk quick and stay drinking all night. Thank you genetics...anyways like it was mentioned before sex is a great way to prevent a hangover in the morning because it forces you to kinda sober up while you are "having fun"...Make sure you have a hangover jug of water that is cold so you can chug it in the morning...Dont pass out right away when you have the spins it only makes it worse...Try not to break the seal early in the night so you save some kind of hydration...finally the last thing that seems to work for me is have a nice greasy pizza before you pass out...hey admit it if you are gonna go to a bar you arent going there to get healthy...

No point saying drink water with your drinks, or before you go to bed. As the title of the thread is - what is the CURE not what PREVENTS a hangover.
Anyway it my experiences there are a number of ways to reduce the effects and make your day bearable especially when I'm at work.
Anyway.
One pint + of water.
Full english breakfast. Not cereal, milk upsets the stomach.
Fizzy drink like Irn Bru or Coca Cola, don't ask me why.
Few Paracetamol.
Fresh air and if you can stomach it, some exercise to sweat it out of you.
I've met nothing that can completely cure a hangover, and believe me I would pay vast amounts of money for it come 10am sunday morning, but the above should shrink it considerably.

Well last saturday night I drank quite a bit. Few Grey Goose shots, few Vodka/Soda waters, and some wine. Typically I would have been hungover as ****. But, I tried something that people have always told me to do. And that is to drink down a lot of water, and then wait a good hour before falling asleep/passing out. This actually seemed to work. However, Im usually so drunk I wont remember to drink any water, or stay up an hour later.

Oh blast, I thought it said the 9th.
Well, that probably just disqualified me... but here's what I had written anyways (for anyone that was interested). I didn't think it was a bad piece of work either.

Hopefully this will be included with the rest. The first page says Wednesday at midnight (mountain time) but also says the last day is the 8th. I figure that 8th is a typo because Wednesday and Tuesday are quite different.
But alas, here is my addition:

Hi
How yall doin, caught this thread as I scanned through and thought I would help people out, I cannot condone this entirely but if you would like an EFFECTIVE cure for a hangover use milkthistle tablets. Helps the liver clean out impurities. I'm a a lad who suffers badly with headaches and to top it off my stomach rejects even water. Only take one and you wont have a screwdriver in your skull plus altho there is overheatin if you drink water SLOWLY an hour afterwards and then down it the only symptom of methanol poisoning is... feeling ever so slightly sick. BTW the methanol cant be digested, it lurks in the brain/body whereas the ethanol is easily catered for. Thank me in the mornin, O, and if you are one who actually has trouble even keepin water in their stomachs, let alone nethin else, luck to u and this does work.
Gd luck

Do you want to go blind/die? Or is there some other reason you are drinking methanol?

Being hungover is not all that fun. The best way to prevent having a hangover is to drink 1 full glass of water after every 2-3 drinks. To be absolutely certain you will not be hungover, drink a 32oz Gatorade before hitting the sack. The electrolytes will refuel your body of the lost vitamins and minerals from drinking. Now, how to cure a hangover. There are 3 steps that are proven to work:
Step 1: Drink 1 beer or mixed drink upon wakening
Step 2: Down 500-1000 mgs of aspirin and 25mg of Dramamine
Step 3: Eat a banana (potassium is known to revitalise your body after a heavy night of drinking!
This has ALWAYS worked for me and hopefully it can work for you

as my friends say it, the best cure for hangovers is.... drink again. i've never done it since i don't want my liver to rot but my friends did it.
i usually just have a cold bath and drink plenty of water.
or better yet, just drink water while drinking alcohol, that way, you wouldn't get a hangover as easy as when you dont drink water.

In order to prevent a hangover, I eat a greasy fast food meal after I'm done drinking to coat the stomach lining in order to slow alcohol absorption of what's already in there, plus absorb some into the food I just ate. It's the one time I allow it to be part of my diet.
If I just drank way too much to be able to prevent a hangover, in the morning, I mix 1/3 orange juice and 2/3 Sprite and drink as much as I can to rehydrate. Most people think it would be harsh on the stomach, but it's actually VERY easy on the stomach and very soothing. And when my stomach can handle it, I eat protein and carbs.

Two things:
Before you go to bed, take a good dose of Advil or Aspirin with 16oz of water. This will take care of the headache the next morning.
The next morning, have one tall vodka/Pedialite. This will help replace electrolytes and also curb the "withdrawl" from the alcohol (might also make you a little tippy).
Finish it off with a good breakfast and a gallon of water by noon or 1 and you're good to go.
The next day you'll pee like a racehorse all day as your body expells all of the excess water. But it works.

Finish it off with a good breakfast and a gallon of water by noon or 1 and you're good to go.
The next day you'll pee like a racehorse all day as your body expells all of the excess water. But it works.

Another post that should be filed under "What NOT to do to avoid a hangover".
So taking a "good dose" of a painkiller while your body is still metabolizing alcohol is a good thing? Not unless you want to ruin your liver and create potentially deadly internal bleeding.
Alcohol in the morning? You just delay the hangover. You feel better once all the alcohol is removed from your body.
