Interest in Competition

I have been power lifting for a while now and I've always been one of the strongest guys in my school even though I am only 5'4. My weight fluctuates but I can cut down to 150lbs easy. I bench around 225 x8, squat 315, and deadlift 385. Keep in mind these where my best and probably were not good enough form to count in a competition. Anyways would I be wasting my time going to a local show... If not how do I find one. (I just got stationed at Ft. Shafter/Honolulu.)

i think if you have a desire to compete then go for it. other than for ego reasons your lifts for your first several meets don't matter. most of us, if honest, have looked at the records in whatever fed we were going to compete in and size ourselves up accordingly. for most, your not going to break records your first meet. there is a lot going on at a meet more important to worry about then breaking records. go and have fun, learn something, get your nerves ironed out. most people are going to feel nervous the first time they compete, that is normal. hell the last meet i did, which was my third, i remember being second out from my first squat attempt and thinking " what the hell am i doing here!" i ended up hitting squat pr that meet. the point is don't let your nerves keep you from doing something you want. being anxious is nothing to worry about, its what you do with that anxiety that counts. good luck and good lifting.
