By the way Lara Croft is a make believe character and the Angelina Jolie is crazy skinny, so really, it sounds like you're talking about the fantasy of a frail looking woman who can kick your ass.

no what I was saying is that the personality traits that lara croft (the fantasy character displays) are extremely attractive.
Men and women find the same sort of traits sexually appealing in each other. IE confident, high social value, strong personality, leader, etc...

Why are men intimidated by women who lift heavy?
Men are intimidated by women who lift heavy because it varies from the stereotypical portrayal of a woman. Men find this intimidating because men don't see muscular women in their day to day lives so they are naturally hesitant but it doesn't mean they arn't curious. For example someone who frequents the gym regularly might be quite used to seeing women lifting heavy and think it normal. Someone who doesn't go to where these strong women frequent won't be used to them and may find them intimidating.
As with all things everyone finds different things intimidating like different people find different builds attractive.

i like girls not hulk like girls.. and alot of other guys also dont like bodybuilding type girls... i mean its just not sexy.... has nothing to do with being intimitaded... some guys like fat girls some like skinny others like tall others short.... i really dont care i like tall and short aslong as your healthy in shape and not overweight... and no bodybuilding girls cause thats jjust plain weird and not my style.. i actually get turned off by women like that...
but everyone has their preferences.. i bet theres some guys out there that are attracted to overly muscular girls... i mean my girlfriend is muscular but nothing like those huge girls on roids.. shes 5'4 and 108 pounds.. shes fit has a perfect body... no need to add 200 pounds of muscle on a girl.

I know about men getting beaten by a strong woman .
Next to my job as personla trainer i do strength shows and compasions of strength and it is always funny to see the men?s reactions if i be stronger at the weights or beat them at armwrestling .
I think there is no reason to get intimidate by strong woman but so many men have problems with that .
I dont like loosing a compasion of strength but sometimes it happens . For me this is a motivation to workout harder .

This thread is about intimidation, not sexual attraction. So are you intimidated by everyone you don't want to sleep with?

any man that is intimidated by a woman in the weight room should probably just hack his nuts off anyway.

Especially in summer when i wear a short tank top and my arms are not covered is see many man looking at my muscles and getting intimidated at the moment they compare with the owm small arm .
It is in the mens heads that man are the stronger sex and at the moment they see a muscular women the men think abotu that is something wrong with the nature .
Many ask me to flex my biceps . The reactions are very different some are impressed and show some admiration , but many get intimidated and think that this could not be normal .

I have only seen a few built women in my time...my whole 2.5 years of constant lifting and 4 gyms. Iam typically impressed when I see a strong woman or one that actually puts some decent weight on the bar.
I suppose if I saw a woman 5'10 and up throwing up 2 plates on the bench for 15-20 I would be....I dont know I would just be in aw.

There is nothing like a strong woman. I hate to see anyone walk around the gym with 5 lb weights swinging them and not breaking a sweat. I say if you can train hard and heavy more power to ya

Its pretty much a guy thing having to do with our "sex role" as protectors/ phys domanace.
When you see a women lifting more then you can a lot of stuff runs through your head. For you your prob just going so what but the guy is thinking things like "wtf is wrong with me, stop being sucha pussy" "you're letting a women lift more then YOU? how do you even call yourself a man" Its like a punch to a gut telling you you must fix this situation if your going to be ok with yourself in the future.
However if you somehow cant improve farther then you simply have to accept her has your phy equal or greater, but that tends to lead to the "one of the guys" treatment where guys tend to stop looking at women as women persay but more like just one of their guy buddys.

I get crap all the time from the guys that I work with, "why do you have to lift so much?" "why do you have to be so big?" Uhhhh my job, I like to be able to tow my own weight and then some.
My hubby doesn't mind me lifting more than him, I have strong legs and can lift more. He has me beat in a few areas of upper body but other than that we can go toe to toe.
I use to be skinny, now that I am getting ready for a BB competition my attitude is go big or go home. I dont' mind the muscles, helps me do my job.
Cheers

In contrast to men.
I happen to agree totally.
If women "should be treated like queens" as a general rule, should men also be treated as kings?
Isn't it obvious why men are intimidated by strong women? It's because men want to have sex with women. Heterosexual men refuse to entertain the thought of having sex with equals (i.e. other males). The nature of sex is that it puts males in the dominant position. Women are subservient. When a situation arises that reverses the balance of power, men feel insecure. Women feel insecure 95% of the time because women are in the inferior position 95% of the time. The other 5%, the exact same scenario applies to males.
The very definition of a "femininity" is absolutely, positively, irrevocably correlated with weakness. "Female strength" is an oxymoron; women can only become stronger by adopting male characteristics. e.g. female athletes are flat chested, because tits get in the way of things.
It's a guy's natural instinct to try to get into a woman's pants in any way that he can. And yes, the vast majority of men perceive women to be extraordinarily weak on a subconscious level. This is revealed by their tame behavior towards women in stark contrast to their behavior towards members of their own sex.
The chivalrous man considers all women to be practically helpless.
The man who respects women, is the one who would not hesitate to hit a woman.
Men refuse to hit women because they are incapable of seeing them as a threat. This is the worst possible insult that one can receive. To have one's own opponents refuse to even acknowledge him.
Every man considers the most pathetic and weak male adversary to be a far greater threat than the strongest woman. This is demonstrated by the fact that Fathers will readily beat their own sons, but won't lay a hand on a woman. The message is crystal clear: You, woman, are weaker and more helpless than a young boy.
I, for one, would not mind seeing more "strong women" around. For this reason, I strongly encourage widespread testosterone administration to females. Thanks to the miracles of modern chemistry, we now have the power to determine our own fate over biology.

you are hilarious.
mainly because you use a thesaurus for every sentence you write, But mainly because of your severe lack of logical thinking. Also because you list your height but not your weight.. as if being 6'0 is some kind of achievement, lmfao. Last I hear you were 140 lbs? what are you now? a whopping 160? Still convinced you are weak and small because of things you can't control?
man I love your posts, keep them coming.

I am not intimidated by women who lift heavy. In fact, on the crossfit forum -- which is the training program I have been following -- women are encouraged to lift as heavy as possible (squats, deadlifts, overhead squats, clean and jerk, snatch, etc.). What I don't like, and don't believe in, is women (or men for that matter) taking steriods / growth hormones to become unbelievably huge. Here is Nicolo Carroll, a crossfit wonder woman, performing heavy push jerks. At around 120 - 122 lbs bwt, she pushed 185 lbs overhead (almost 195 lbs). All the Crossfit men love to watch these women lift heavy. We think it is great!

I'm a guy and I love it when women aren't afraid to use heavy weights.
By all means, if you can lift heavier, DO IT.

I would say guys are intimidated for the same reason that they're intimidated by other guys that lift more than them... it's a blow to their ego, and even worse to them if it's the opposite sex!

Now, I would have loved to see his facial expression if you had jumped on that leg press machine after him, without removing any of the xtra plates that he had added, and then do a set without breaking a sweat :-D

[QUOTE=AltarsofMadness;119379251]very very bizarre statement. How large/thin/muscular your frame is HAS a lot to do with how masculine or feminine your bodytype is
wtf are you talking about?
I thought it was clear what I had said... I do not see what is "bizarre" about my statement. Only people with ego problems are intimidated by strong women - plain and simple. AGAIN - there is more to being "male" or "female" than by how muscular you are or how much you can lift. Some people have a very narrow view, and if 99% of people have a narrow view - well, I don't care! Oh - dvsness - I like the things you had to say on the subject! Good luck to you and keep pushing!
