I took the opportunity to sleep on it and allow all of your comments to dig in deeper. It is forums such as this and our ability to express ourselves openly on them that makes me grateful for our troops fighting for our freedom (including freedom of speech) over in Afghanistan.

Much of my concern for what goes on with sexually unsafe practices comes from my experience as the head of the Army STD Clinic at the 543rd General Dispensary at Camp Walker, Taegu, Korea in 1984-1985. My concerns here are out of genuine concern, not out of judgmentalism. When I worked in that clinic I was dubbed "Chief Pecker Checker." When I left Korea the troops in my unit gave me a lab slip with goodbyes written on it and references to various STD tests that I commonly called for when a patient would come in with STD symptoms.

Guys, that is factual. A friend of mine said his doctor told him about that very thing well over two years ago. It is the truth and is quite disturbing. HIV is now being controlled to an extent with a drug, unlike in 1992 when "the cocktail" was what my cousin Dale had to take yet he still contracted AIDS and passed away on 26 Sep 92. The false security that men have and the trust that they have placed in the drug has lead to unsafe play and the false sense of invincibility.

Westboro Baptist Church has planned to go to Camp Lejune, Jacksonville, N.C. to protest against the military, the deceased soldiers that have died since 9/11 and gays. This is only a 45 minute drive from my front door. They have picketed at fire fighter funerals as well as at military funerals. A father of a deceased Marine won a lawsuit against them toward the end of 2007. They preach and shout that the reason troops are being killed in Iraq and Afghanistan is due to America's and the military's acceptance of homosexuality as the norm. What should my reaction as an American, man with faith, gay, fire fighter, military aficionado who LOVES and appreciates our troops, be to this and, if you were this close to a protest as such, would you show up to counter the protest?

We had a car fire that did not want to go out this morning at 0130 hours until 0300 hours, next to the YMCA here. It was raining quite a bit. I was pretty soaked standing out there, pulling hose (don't get any ideas guys, LOL), pumping foam, etc. My coat is similar to that of a cop's, made partly of nylon and some rain resistant material. It was shining in the rain.

One of my guys came to me and said, "Man I thought you were wearing a leather jacket." I laughed pretty hard. Little did he know of the debate ensuing on here and my comments earlier in the week. If only he knew. LOL.

It is off to the gym on three hours sleep and it's legs day. ARRRRRG.

Well, I am going to D.C. this weekend for Mid-Atlantic leather, which is as you probably guessed, a leather/fetish event. This is definitely not my scene, but I'm a voyeur and think it will be fun.

Next month: WINTER PARTY in South Beach. It has remained one of the planets best and most sucessful circuit parties. It also makes tons of money for charity. The t-dance out on the beach with the azure Atlantic in sight is always memorable.

Do remember to report back on how it went. I really wish I were going, just to try to spot some familiar faces in the crowd and among the vendors. It's probably for the best - I wind up spending a lot of money on equipment at these things. Sigh. Maybe next year.

I attended an event here in New Jersey last summer and my partner, who is vanilla and also painfully shy (but very supportive of my kinks), dressed in camo shorts and a leather vest and blended right in. So camo will work and won't make you look like you're trying too hard or play in any specific sort of scene. Well, not in any scene I've heard of yet.

LOL, for those types of events I just go in my regular work clothes... drilling mud/rust stained, worn out international orange coveralls, and old steel toe redwing workboots. Our regular uniform on the drilling rig I work on. Funny thing is I get a lot of people mistaking it for a prison uniform thing.

There is no choice in having feelings for the same sex. There is a choice in acting on them.

I would say, "Hey man, if you are not gay you missed your calling" and see how he reacts. Just kidding. I would not put it to him that way. Really though, honesty in your relationships is of paramount importance for without it we become very pretentious and the relationship is nothing but on the surface. True love demands the truth. All of my friends know that I am right up front with them about things and it is take me or leave me.

Be there for him. Listen to him. If you are not out of the closet to him then I would do come out to him. For those that are having a difficult time coming to terms with their orientation it can be torture.

Lastly, when one gets very upset about an accusation of any kind then it is time to check them on it. Usually they are hiding something, not always, but usually. Enter: defense mechanisms. That may or may not be the case with your friend. Be patient with him and just love him. He may feel it is just his business but the gay bashing would get old. Ignore that if you are able. He may eventually stop doing it. Then again if you have not come out to him and do you can call him on his remarks and tell him how it offends you, that is if it does. The worse that can happen is that you would stand up for yourself and your friends whilst losing a friend you had that bashed you.

A true friend is one who will stab you in your heart, not your back.

Unfortunately that is what happens when people stay up all night and wear the ole body down without recharging it. I don't know how guys do it. It would tear apart my workouts. Does he look as if he has been doing something (meaning illicit drugs or some illness set in?) to wear down his looks? Dunno. He did look a bit rough in a vid I saw of him last week online but I would not turn him away. I talk with a guy on here that is doing bodybuilding contests and is a COLT model. We will see where it goes, not that I would want a relationship with him or anything but the man does have a sweet spirit about him and wishes I was closer to him. Ditto.

Regarding Chase. Hell, look at me, I am not a spring chicken either. I am probably a lot older than he is. 48 now. You must have been at the show at the Warehouse in GSO. Hello all,
I I am a former Marine and gay man and to add a African American
These racists, gaybashers and bigots really are miserable and probably have lived and are presently living miserable lives.

I was a product of divorce,abuse and abandonment in my childhood and recently in my adult life when my ex -lover took his own life and my mom died recently - I am not looking for a pity party just stating the facts here and responding to what I see in these posts.

And it saddens me that people are still like this in this day and age when the real war is in Iraq and we have to learn from what is going on abroad and not be so self involved and step outside of your own personal hell for just a second to see how really lucky we all are in comparison.
I could be in any one of those positions right now and feeling sorry for myself and protest and holler at the way the world has turned out. but I made a choice to rise above that and go on with my life.

Although I would not choose to be in that war now I honor those men fighting for their country even though I think there is no valid reason they should be there now -They are too young and inexperienced to be in that position of trying to do what experienced diplomats cannot or will not do.
Meanwhile our remaining young generation is being killed for nothing. Just think guys about for a second that is all I ask.

I see you guys slamming each other unnecessarily and I dont even think you really know how lucky you really are. I might be wrong -my situation could be much worse and some of your situations probably are. But if you have the oppurtunity to change then do it and stop complaining and bashing others.

Life is too short. I have come to find this out when I starting losing loved ones I had a lot of time to ponder this and I commend those that have -I concluded this just from reading recent posts. Like I said I could be in worser , ( not sure if that is the right word) position.
I went through therapy and went back to school after working since I was 18 and now I had time to examine who I am as person and learned a lot about myself . Believe me it is scary to do that when the only person you answer to is yourself. You have to peel back layers of crap and I am still in that process - I have a wonderful man now that is going through similar circumstances with a lover that died of AIDS and his mom died along the same time mine passed,. so it was meant to be and we are helping other people that have those same issues. I think this is my purpose here on earth to help those that need it and in turn it helps me become a stronger man and human being.

I would like to talk to some of you privately to see how you feel and share those issues if you would like too. But the choice remains with you I am not an expert but personal experience always helps and I would love to share those with any one that is interested and needs it.
Finding out things about yourself is hard to do- it is easier to talk about someone else than stepping outside of your physical body and looking and examining who you really are as a person , man and member of the human race.

Unprotected anal intercourse with a partner of different or unknown HIV serostatus increased from 9.3% to 14.6%. Mean number of male partners increased from 10.7 to 13.8. The largest reported increase was 18.9% to 26.8% for "serosorting," or choosing unprotected anal intercourse partners believed to have the same HIV serostatus as oneself. Men aged 30 to 50 reported the largest increase in unprotected anal intercourse, whereas men aged 18 to 29 reported the largest increase in serosorting. Changes in the age distribution did not explain the increase in risky behavior. Conclusions: Both HIV prevalence and sexual risk increased substantially among MSM in San Francisco between 1997 and 2002. Serosorting is being adopted more frequently than condom use by young MSM, but its effectiveness as a harm reduction strategy is not known. Of course, you could tear these apart but the agruements will start to sound ridiculous when one realized that almost all research is indicating that the problem is increasing again and everyone misrepresents their safety to friends and family but when asked through anon survey...Yeah, it is a whole different story.

All that work in health care system know that HIV and STDs is making a come back. There might be some legitamacy to Steve arguements. I think his perspective is interesting because he has not been socialized into the gay community yet. Most of us have been and with that socialization comes the willingness to over look certain behaviors and assume they are natural and normal. When people get criticized for these behaviors by someone they dismiss this person's perspective because over generalization with little understanding. Yeah, he did that as well but yeah some of it might be more correct than people care to admit.
