I checked out your Profile page and did not see any supplements listed. I'm seeking what combos really work good. And which ones are ok? What do you think?

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. I found these forums awhile ago, but never got around to posting or reading some of the excellent info posted here. I'm going to be 35 this year and have finally decided that I need to get my life and health back to where they need to be. Not to mention, i'm getting married in sept of 08 and would like to be in much better shape for the wedding.
I've worked out off and on over the years, going back to my high school sports days. I was even a trainer at a Golds Gym several years ago. I landed a job in corporate America 7 years ago and basically sit on my butt for 8 hours a day. In that time i've gained over 70 lbs and lost any muscle mass I once had.
I'm currently 6ft and weigh in at about 280. I'm thinking for my goals I want to drop about 70 lbs of fat and gain about 25 lbs of muscle. Working out won't be the hard part. When I get into a routine of lifting, I enjoy it and look forward to it. Eating healthy and cardio are going to be my problems. I know I have to be religious in diet & exercise to get the results I want. So I need to make a total lifestyle change. My fiance is doing this with me, so that will help with eating better and staying motivated at the gym.
Before when I was working out and in shape, I only used a few suppliments. It seems that there is alot of new stuff on the market. I definatly need to do some research. I'm just used to using creatine and drinking protein shakes. I don't think those alone will help me in my quest now. Anyways, it looks like a great forum here. I'm looking forward to learning new tips, techniuqes, and sharing my journey with everyone.

Hi everyone!
I`ve been enjoying this great site for quite a few weeks, and thought I`d come out of the shadows..finally!
I have been working out, consistantly, since February 07, and have lost 59 pounds, to date. My goal is to get down to 15% body fat and to just be as lean as I possibly can, and if it means I need to shoot for less...then I`ll keep at it, till it happens. At present, I`m 18.5%, and that is quite a drop from my starting point of 45% body fat. Sometimes I`m amazed at how far I have come..in such a short amount of time!
This site is such a valuable asset to those of us just starting out with getting lean. I have learned all about clean eating and how it is key to getting the optimum results. Also, all the wonderful insight on how cardio does not have to be such a top priority in the fat loss battle, as I always thought it was. Because of this site, I mustered up the nerve to DECREASE my cardio from 7 days per week, down to just 3, and incorporated HIIT into those workouts. Plus, I INCREASED my strength training to 45 minutes, 3 times per week, from the 15 minutes I was doing...and becoming quite lax in keeping it consistent (THAT, I wanted to stop doing!).
And the improvements have been astounding!! My upper AB`s have made their first appearance, my endurance has increased, rapidly, during my treadmill workouts, and I`m making certain to do 3 sets and 15 reps on each of my strength training exercises and keeping it in circuit training mode. The scale is still, slowly dropping, so I know everything I`m doing is working like it should!
So, that`s most of my story.

Hey All
Well, I've been lurking for a couple of weeks to get a feel for this place and it looks like this "Over Age 35" board will be my new home.
Long story short, turning 45 tommorrow (Dec 29th) and I'm in real trouble if I don't do something about my current condition. I started on my blog and it's a definite work in progress but tells a little more about me.
Anyway, it's good to be here and the iron feels as good as it always has even though I haven't touched a plate in over 10 years. I'm doing a full body routine for at least 4 weeks, 1 set of 8-10 reps just to get back into the groove and it seems to be working great. Soreness is gone and strength is steadily improving. I'm on a ketogenic diet right now and the weight is coming off at about 2 lb's a week or so. Also, no cravings whatsoever and I'm really comfortable at 20-30g of carbs a day. Basic supplements include a multi, flax oil/Udo's Choice, whey/creatine pre and post workout and a few others I'm playing around with.
O.K. Enough boring stuff. I'll be around and I promise to do a search before I ask those aggravating "noob" questions. Good to be here and looking forward to a great 2008!!

Help putting on mass
Hi All,
First post here so bear with me... I'm a 45 yr old ice hockey player, 6', 180lbs who's always had a hard time putting on muscle mass. I still play 2-3 times per week which serves as great cardio. I also work a lot but usually get to the gym 3 times per week, Tues, Sat & Sun. Through years of hockey I've also developed lower back issues which are now controlled through stretching / yoga. I've read a lot on bb.com about 5x5 workouts, which look great. My concerns are: 1) a lot of squats will burn my back out (are there alternatives?) and 2) the 3-day per week 5x5's have days off in between (what can I do to work out without a day off, ie Sat & Sun?).
Thanks!

Hello,
I am new here but have been lurking for some time as I recently began ordering on-line from bb.com for my supps and started to notice all the other features the site offers. I especially like the workout tracker. Been using it now for a week or so.
My story is a slight bit different as I found out several years ago how bad a shape I was in after I was recovering from a broken ankle surgery. I made a decision after I left the hospital not to feel like that again. I am in fairly good shape as I am 42, 5'8", 175lbs and 13% bodyfat but feel like I have plateaued. I am not sure how much further you can go given if you can not live in the gym. I do feel I can give more though...
Also last year I started to get more serious about cycling and going a team with a coach and he has me putting in on average right now 10 hours and higher per week on the bike and we are not in race season. The funny thing is this year I am starting to see my body change and feel I can go heavier...but tossed between the two worlds of cycling and bodybuilding.
Hoping I can get some answers and take my fitness and physique to a new level...with some help.

Welcome to the land of advice. I recommend starting out easy with the weights on the bar or dumbbell. Your back issues and no rest days sends me red flags. Listen to your body while lifting...If there is pain during a lift STOP. Proper Technique is so important to prevent injury. Simple fact I learned (here) when doing a squat, is to tighten the Sphincter Muscle. No one ever told me that it will help prevent hemorrhoid or Hernia? Well your squats can be done sitting or laying in a Machine. This provides good support for the spine with good quad isolation. If you can use free weights it will burn more calories and get bigger results from working the whole body. Most important fact I learned is muscles grow/repair during sleep and REST mode. I too am a Hard Gainer and have gotten stronger, bigger, little fatter with Protein Supplements. After six weeks of lifting I recommend Animal Pak vitamin supplements with the Animal Stack2 supplement. Welcome to the world of BB.com

Check out all the exercises available in the "1000's Articles". Start with easy lifts and add 5 pounds after 3-4 days of rest on that muscle group. You'll be getting stronger and bigger in No Time!! Protein Shakes before works is highly recommended!!

Hi All:
I have been lurking on BB.com for some time now, there is so much to learn. I have been hitting the gym pretty hard for about two years now, I found out in Nov. 04 that I am diabetic, I made a life changing decision at that point that I was going to change for the better, since that day I have lost 50 + pounds, my diet has gotten a lot better and the gym has become part of my daily routine, I am addicted to feeling great. At the age of 40 I am in the best shape of my life, this is a great section of these forums, very motivating with great support from the members. Thanks to all that participate, I look forward to logging on daily to see what you all have to say...
2008 is going to be a great year for me mentally and physically...

On behalf of the folks who aren't new here I want to welcome all of you who are; please feel free to join in the discussions. Questions (after using the search key) and polite replies are always welcome, while rudeness soon leaves for other places unknown to many of us. C'mon in, hear?

I find working out triggers a New Diet and mentality to take care of the temple. I have not smoked a cigar since I started hitting the weights. Don't rush the weights on the bar...add 5 pounds more on the next work out. Soon you'll be lifting heavy with out tendon injury. Stretch before, during, after!!

Newbie
I am new to the site and have set up my body space. I am determined to succeed this time and not turn my back on my fitness. I am still trying to figure out all this site has to offer but from what I have seen there are alot of people who have done amazing things on here. I hope that belonging to this site will keep me inspired and working hard to reach my goals.

I have seen some red Neg'ed posters, but don't care to do a history check on their rudeness? Again, welcome to the New age of over 35!

new old guy here.
my past? former WSM contender. ruptured both biceps, repaired both then a C 5,6,7 compression fractures with a brachial plexus injury resulting in a 90% paralysis in my right pec, right tricep, forearm flexors, posterior deltoid.
4 years later and other than having a very imbalanced right bench/incline and military, my strength, size and attitude are growing like gangbusters. I want to be the best I can be for my 3yo daughter.
my arms are back up to nearly 22". I once measured after a massive pumped arm workout... a legit 24" arm. chest is 55, waist to 42 from 48, calves at 21. now, I have never BB'd, but I am not sure my WSM days can make a comeback. maybe cardio will play a bigger role in my future?
