Locker room ethics

OK... I'm going to vent just a little... Here is what happened to me last night at the gym.... I had worked out for about an hour and a half then done 45 minutes on the bikes in a cycling class, by the end of the night I was wore out. I go in and take a quick shower and I am getting dressed....OK....here is where it all takes place.. So I'm sitting on the bench getting dressed, have my wind suit pants on and I am putting on my socks and shoes so I'm bent over doing that, now our benches are about 3 feet from the lockers.... yeah here it comes....while I'm tying my shoes this 300lb 5 foot nothing lard @ss comes in right out of another shower and apparently has his locker next to mine......he stands at his locker wearing not a Freakin thing, dang near has to hunch the locker to keep from hitting me. I have to lean back to keep from having contact with his nasty @ss.....Now come on...put on a towel and wait till you have room to get dressed....... my buddy thought it was funnier than $hit, at the time I sure didn't but now I have to chuckle a little......OK vent over now.

Oh the joys of newbies in the locker room. I think this is a "common sense" issue for the guy and not really an "ethics" issue.

Over the 20 years of being in gym locker rooms NOTHING is more disgusting than that clown that does a snot rocket or clears his throat in the shower and spits. That guy needs to be shot on site.

But I really do hate those people that don't dry off b4 getting to the locker as well; like your new friend.

I walked into the locker one day to throw on some shorts and t-shirt. when I walked around the corner there is this older gentleman buck nekid (must of just showered) with one foot on the floor one foot up on the bench. now here comes the nasty part. I am getting dressed and hear this CLIP CLIP. I am trying to mind my own buisness, when one of his nasty ass toe nails land on the floor next to me. I couldnt believe it. this is prolly the same kinda guy that pisses all over the seat and leaves it for the next guy to wipe up. f***** slob.

It could have been worse, he could have been turned in the other direction!!

etiquette is the appropriate word. now being naked is something that is pretty normal in a locker room--but one should be conscious of other's personal space. he should at least say 'excuse me, but my locker is next to yours" to allow you to move out of the way.

Ewww... See, now my little gym has a combo bathroom and shower stall. That's it. Kinda like a master bath in a house. I don't think anyone has ever used the shower. Certainly, you'll never (I'm hoping) find more than one person in there. There's a sign that says, "Please lock the door behind you."

The worse thing is that when there are two guys who just got out of the showers and are just standing there next to their lockers with nothing on talking about work and their wives and family. the worse part is you are on the other side of the bench trying to get dressed out to go work out! Tell me if that doesn't scare you I don't know what will. Come on cover up or soemthing!

I'm sorry, but I would have said something, semi politely but he still needs to know. I hate when people do that crap. That is one of the reason we haven't put showers in our gym.

Go over to the misc and look at the pics those kids throw up there before bed tonight, might stay off the nightmares.

yep I know exactly what you mean, I always give my "locker-neighbour" lots of space if I can, to the point of taking my stuff out and moving out of the way (if he's there first) but for some reason when I'm already at my locker the guy above or beside me always seems to want to get into his locker at the same time.....geez...... I do like my personal space but have to be fair to others...and expect the same treatment if I'm there first.

I have one story that comes to mind, old guy....new to the gym, walks up while I'm getting dressed after my shower.....I've got the bottom locker, he has the one above mine.....I'm sitting on the bench putting my socks on so sort of leaning forward.....bench is fairly close to the lockers.....he unlocks his locker and throws open the door and smacks me right in the head.....I saw stars and was speechless.....he just looked at me, closed the door and ran off....I dont think I've ever seen him there again.....I laugh now, but I had a lump on my temple for a few days.

in short if there's a crowd around my locker, I wait till they're finished.....no point adding to the crowd.

I'm certain that there is a correlation here--The more out of shape an individual is the greater the propensity towards improper and disturbing acts of locker room nudity.

I don't think it's all "newbies." Some of these guys have been coming to the gym for a while (most likely once a week for years, considering they make no progress).

I can't say I see the in shape people doing this stuff nearly as often.

I find that older men (55 plus--sorry guys--I'm not talking about peeps on these boards ) seem to do this more often. I think they just don't give a s@$t any more.

Nothing scares me more than Ebenezer Scrooge and his junk lurking around the room.

Amen to all said here. I'm not in the greatest of shape, but working on it, but the last thing I ever wanna see is a weiner other than my own. As another stated, it does tend to be the more portly, aged fellows that let it dangle away.

Nothing like tying your shoes, raising up and POW wiener hanging right in front of you, that's disgusting.

One of those things I don't even think about anymore.

After 3 years of high school athletics where common showers were after every football practice.

Navy bootcamp where there where 4 of us were around 1 pole that had 4 shower nozzles coming out of it... 6 years on submarines where there is pretty much NO privacy, or personal space to spare. 10 years working on offshore oil drilling rigs where many of them had common area showers... It's just something you become completely numb to after a while.

Reading everyones comments here, makes me realise that these stories are about "guys" hanging out in the locker rooms....and I do mean "hanging out" if you get my drift..... it seems the fit guys and those you'd imagine would have something to show off (ie: solid muscle, great abs etc) are the considerate ones that cover up with a towel and show some decorum....while grandpa is cutting his toenails while buck naked...ewwww....what an image thanks lewdawg.

So I'm wondering, do the ladies have similar stories? what goes on in their change rooms.....is grandma letting it all hang out while the cardio bunnies cover up?..... my imagination is working overtime here....and it aint pretty.

The worse is as I'm heading out the door passing the bathroom part of the locker room, some dude is standing in front of one of the mirrors shaving his "boys" - or at least some area around there. I wasn't about to stand there and gawk.

Ok a little off topic, but ya know I can't seem to get passed a gym full of people and some guy rips out some vapor in the midst of the crowd. Now I fully understand and am victim of what exactly eating tons of protein does, trust me, but a little tact, cause I tend not to be able to work out well with a gas mask on.....

I can't speak for the other ladies, but the gym I go to yep. I've seen it all and didn't want to! Grandmas and cardio bunnies both seem proud to show off what they got lol. So far no horror stories though thankfully but I've not been going there very long so that might change. I'm so glad we don't have any parts that could accidentally smack each other like men do lol.

I'm too shy and nowhere where I want to be yet with my body so don't want anyone seeing me. I'm pretty quick to get in and out lol.

At the gym I go to this one dude always leaves his sweaty underwear laying on the floor when he goes to shower. If your locker is by his you have to literally walk around to try to avoid stepping on them. He could stuff them in his locker or gym bag, but NO... right on the d@mn floor. I'd have half a nerve to start intentionally throwing them in the trash and maybe when he runs out of underwear he'd figure it the F out, but I'm not touching it. Hmmmm... I wouldn't have to touch them just to sprinkle hot sauce on them? Then again, maybe I could be grown-up about it and just ask him to hide it in the gymbag?

No-one's nakedness bothers me. However, there used to be this guy who would change next to me,somehow all the time, and blather at 100 MPH about whatever major league sports event that was happening. He had OCD/ADD or something.

I just go straight home after the gym and do all that at home. I hate nasty ass locker rooms, and I don't see why people even use them.
