Do you guys sometimes cut your workout short?
Or do you stay for and extra 10-15 minutes or so complete your workout?
Sounds like a dumb question, but if your workout is usually 45min-1hour, and you didn't get everything done within that time frame for whatever reason, would it be better to cut it short and stay within that timeframe, or take a little bit more time to finish the last couple excercises/sets?
Thanks in advance

Always finish your workout. Nothing happens after 45 minutes or an hour, that is an old wives tail.

I dont keep track of time when I workout. I dontthink thats good IMO. It just makes you want to get out faster. I stay untill i'm satisfied and I know I've had a perfect workout
Shortening time will just slow down what your trying to achieve. Why do that to yourself?

In my case I have to.
I workout right before I go to work. If I stay late to workout, I'll be late to work.

But many people here say that you're hurting your gains if you stay too long. I suppose that isn't true then?

The chance that the average gym-goer is overtraining is about Eleventy-billion to one. I wouldn't worry about it. If life demands it, cut your workout short. Otherwise, man up and get it done.

I cut my workout short once when I first incorparated squat in my leg routine. I was doing leg press, and I just know I was at my limit. My 3 min bicycle ride home turned into 10 min.. don't want to talk about the next day nor the days after that
To OP, if you're feeling fine, but lagging behind on time than usual (chat, wait for certain equipment, etc) then I don't see why you have to cut it short. Take your time (as needed) and enjoy it!

If you're having to cut your workout short, you're not getting to the gym early enough.

You shouldn't stay and keep working out if you feel like you're done, even if you have more left to do. You'll do better for yourself if you cut it short one week, and come back next week feeling more energized. It depends how intense your workout is. If you're doing sets to failure with 30 seconds rest between your sets, then you're not going to last more than 30-45 minutes max. On the other hand, if you're giving 2 minutes of rest or more, you might be able to workout for an hour, maybe a little more. The point is, don't go by keeping track of the time you've been there. Listen to your body and get out of the gym before you have done too much.
Recovery is a part of training.

listen to your body..
after liftin chest this morning.. i figured i'd wrap up w/some weighted dips and some rope pull downs..
well... last set of weighted dips (pyramid) @ 115+bw, on the last rep (5th) i came all the way down and failed to get back up....
while takin the belt off, i felt a sharp pain in my right clavicle....
safe to say i did some extra light rope push downs... and walked for 10 minutes to cool down....
gunna ice it after work as it's still pretty tight...

I work out 5x a week for 2 hours a day. I have made great gains and never ever cut my workouts short. Stay consistent and motivated..Results will come as long as you live by these 2 words.
