Yeah he was pretty upset about it. he is big on academics, think he had like a 28 on his ACT. He didnt even consider most of the bigger schools that were after him because of it.

He gave up a d1a football scholly for a track scholarship at UCLA and just competed in the pac10 championships as a freshman.
Look at the nike combine results, where the best of the best players go. At the Long Beach one, the best 40's for the top 10 players were 4.51, 4.59, 4.61.
SOURCE: http://sparqtraining.com/features/20...-nike-combine/
I hate to break it to you, but something is wrong with your 40 times. I am assuming it was either hand timed, lasered incorrectly, you were just plain lied to by your coach, or you ran it with spikes on a track... none of which are correct.
Remember, 4.3 or 4.4 is BLAZING for an NFL athlete. Why would untrained, unmatured high school kids be running this fast?simple... they're not.
|
If you dig into that website, there are about 50+ high school kids that are running sub 4.4s, so I suppose it's POSSIBLE there are few from northern cali (more than i wanted to count sub 4.5s). I have to agree on your statement about southern cali football, include San Diego and Los Angeles counties, you've got some serious football. I'm glad they've finally put together a state championship!!!

The other day I ran a 4.12.....is that any good? I'm hoping to get down to 3.9 or so by next spring.
What?
OK, I'm kidding, of course, about the 40. The only time I know of is a 60 METER dash that I ran in 6.97

for My combine (about 7 years ago) here are the numbers I posted. At the time I weighed 205.
40 - 4.46
SS - 4.01
225lbs - 18
broad jump - 10.5
Vert - 36
3 cone - 6.9
Now at 30 I run 4.5 solid but I don't train as hard as I used to so I doubt I could repeat the other numbers

he is fast but his game looks a little sloppy.. his route running wasn't sharp. His head and there was alot of waste movements during catches.. not saying this is him but I worked out with a guy like that.. he was a workout warrior.. tested out of this work.. he succccccccccccccked though *lol* once we put on pads all that other stuff meant nothing.. you have bridge the 2

There are probably endless examples like that.....guys who have blazing speed, great "numbers" but can't put it together when they actually have to go out and play. In the past I've had the privilege of speaking with two strength/conditioning coaches at major D1 schools, and both of them said they see all kinds of "super" athletic kids with great speed, etc....but can't play their position worth a crap....so what good is their 4.2 speed if they suck at playing the game?
There was one guy like that (can't think of the name right away) who played for Alabama a few years ago; super athlete, amazingly fast, etc...but he had no clue about playing his position, where to line up, who to block/cover; so basically, his talent amounted to zero out on the field.

I noticed that too. Especially on the post route he tips it off with his head and shoulders. he also needs to get better at chopping his steps.
I'd never be able to cover him in 1,000,000 years but his technique does leave a lot to be desired.

You have to remember that he isn't soley a WR. Even the annoucers state, "he's the closest player to reggie bush." If I rememeber correctly, Reggie is a RB FIRST, then receiver or Uback or flanker or flyback, whatever you want to call it. Anyway, the annoucers talk about his running ability, not his route running and catch ability, and he might even play defense. He isn't running routes all day and playing catch and on top of that, c'mon, he's in high school.
