gun peopelz one and all... please help
i wanna get a couple AR's before the new year before they get banned (or am i just hearing lies?). a .223 and a .308. i want something reliable accurate and upgradeable (i guess). upgradeable like: you can put a light on one side a scope up top a handle and a stand on bottom and a grill opposite the light (hell im just startin out in the gun world). for both 308 and 223. all for a fairly decent price (just the ARs). help would be greatly appreciated and instantly rep'd.

i haven't heard/seen anything like an allout AR ban. maybe in a couple years if barack yomomma or hillary ****on get in the white house, but not for 08. im sure there would have been more hooplah about it, unless this is local legislation. IMO the best place to go when it comes to anything ar, id go to AR15.com

I recommend RockRiverArms or Bushmaster, they're pretty top-line so you'll pay more.....
Honestly though, there's millions of different combinations you can make for either variant. The only thing you need to have registered is the lower reciever.... just get one of those to start out with, and everything else you can buy as you research what you're interested in.

Ar
Rockriver or Panther Arms are the best AR makers for the price... The great thing about ARs is that you can custumize it to fit what you need. My personal AR is a Rock River i had built for CQB(close combat), because i do alot of training that involves room clearing. DSecide upon your needs or wants a trick your rifle out the way you want it. I highly reccomend a chrome lined barrel and custom trigger job. beyond that mold your AR into whatever hunting or combat style you prefer. And ARs arent goin anywhere so dont worry!

Since they are suggesting RRA, I'll suggest STAG. I own a couple and love them. You will need a quad rail to get that mall ninja AR-15 that you are describing. Here are a couple of simple variations from my own collection.
Two plain jane Stags, one's a 20", the other a 16"

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/472...guns018wz3.jpg
20"
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/192...guns021zh0.jpg
Here is my 16" bull barrel

Here is a doublestar lower registered pistol (trunk gun)
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/2...stol001cy0.jpg
I have a couple more AR's, but the only thing that is ninja style would be my robarms XCR, which you can also chamber for a couple of different rounds (this one is still 5.56/.223)

And you never know if they will get banned or not, but you have more time than just the new year...at the very least, until the next election.

About an extensive AWB, one probably much more extensive than the '94 one - if Hillary, Giuliani, or Obama get the White House, we are doomed in this respect as long as Congress also stays as is or worsens. This will be a top priority for them and can be expected mid to late 2009 if one of those three wins or possibly even with some of the others as Pres. Even Bush said he would have signed a new AWB if it had been passed by Congress before the '94 AWB expired. This time it will likely be much more extensive than before.
As far as the guns, I'd recommend you start frequenting gun forums like
AR15.com - http://www.ar15.com/forums/
and
glocktalk.com - www.glocktalk.com --- go to "non-glock firearms" forum for discussions of all non-glock firearms and also "gun-related club forums" and then the "black rifle club" sub-forum under that - note the other subforums under "gun-related clud forums" as well for info on different stuff.
There are many other great gun forums out there. Its best to learn as much as you can before you buy, and gun forums are one of the best ways to learn if you dont have widely-knowledgable gun gurus around you. It just takes time at the forums, but can be a very interesting and informative study.
.223/5.56 AR-15 - you can either build your own and save a few bucks and build to your likes, or buy a factory rifle. Nuggz is one of the bb.com resident experts on the AR and knows a hell of a lot more than I do about AR's. He would be a prime resource here for this, but will probably try to talk you into building your own, but can help with just about anything. He's got a lot of first-hand experience as well, which I dont except for a few select AR's. Guest89 and Willbrink as well could help maybe.
Ive got a bone stock factory Bushmaster M4A3clone AR15 and love it. Mine was $900. Zero malfunctions in over a 1,000 rounds of various ammo and it is very accurate even with the stock sights. Its about 3 times more accurate at 100 yards with iron sights firing from a rest than my AK's, but Im shooting Wolf ammo through my AK's mostly and would never shoot the Wolf through my AR and dont recommend it. Ive mostly been shooting Federal XM193 5.56 and American Eagle .223 ammo through my AR, along with a little bit of ADCOM 5.56 and some other stuff.
Besides Bushmaster, other great lower-cost brands for an AR are Rock River and Stag. Stay away from Olympic Arms.
.308 - I'd recommend a FN FAL or a Springfield M1A. The M1A in its standard form is a slightly larger rifle than the FN FAL. In in-depth threads about the 'best battle .308's' I think you'll find these two to be the top choices among those who know. The only .308's Ive got are two CETME's and a Remington 700 but Ive shot both of the above that I recommended and have read much about them. I dont recommend the CETME as they can be problematic- and mine have been. The CETME is a clone of the HK G3. The G3 is a lot better rifle than the CETME but still not as good as the FN FAL IMO.
If you can also, I'd recommend picking up an SKS($150-200) and an AK($350-500), and some 7.62X39 ammo.
Dont forget extra mags and ammo also for all the rifles that you buy- as many/much as you can afford. This is just as important as the guns themselves if you are worried about future legislation.
Good luck with it and have fun learning! Congrats on your decision to be a responsible American in this regards.

Make sure you get the exploding tips from Rambo III, you know, the ones that hit with the force of a 500lb. bomb, yet fit in a conveniently small package! Those are essential for home protection!
