P.c.o.s.

My fiancee Has been having problems loosing weight and I have been having all kinds of trouble helping her. She is very unhappy which means I am very very unhappy. To put thing blunt she has PCOS which has lead to insulin resistance. She refuses the diet plans I suggest saying they wont work because of her PCOS. My question is if anyone has this problem and if so how there diet is setup to yield results. I know they way she address these things and if some one who has insulin resistance but does not have PCOS posts (not saying you should not, the more testimonials the better) she will use that as an excuse not to adhere to a diet.

any help would be great!

If you have PCOS, you might need to lose weight. Medicine can help with your menstrual cycle, abnormal hair growth and acne. If you have diabetes or high blood pressure, they have to be treated. If you want to have a baby, there are medicines that help you get pregnant.

Treatment of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in women who wish to conceive

This simple measure may restore menstruation and ovulation in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome. Exercise and weight control also reduce the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes in later life.

Ovulation induction with clomiphene (clomid) tablets

Induction of ovulation with clomiphene tablets is the first choice and is an effective treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). It results in restoring menstruation and ovulation in about 70% of women and some 30% will conceive within three months of treatment. Clomiphene tablets maybe combined with steroid tablets to suppress androgen production. If this fails after a six month trial, then controlled ovarian stimulation with FSH or hMG combined with hCG is used. Because the polycystic ovaries are usually
sensitive to stimulation by hormones, it is important to start with a low dose and adjust the dose according to the response. Monitoring of treatment is essential because these patients are susceptible to develop ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) and multiple pregnancy.

no excuses. take a look at my journal and my bodyspace for my results.

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 27 (but I reckon I had it since my teens) and struggled with reasons and excuses for YEARS.

YOU are in the right place. SHE is in the right place - this lifestyle is THE ONLY WAY she will change her body. IT WORKS.

and re the above post, I always refused drugs - I have managed to get me period back and my physique better than ever
through DIET and EXERCISE.....

Thats great kite and thank you for stepping up. on that one. I checked your profile and did not see a current work out or diet. So that I can show her could you give me an example of what your daily routine would be. Anything to prove that eating Worther's hard candies is not a good idea if you are trying to fight off a sugar craving.

I was diagnosed with PCOS just under 2 years ago - prior to being diagnosed I put on 10kg in about 5 months (this was one of the many symptoms that I experienced) - it was very difficult to lose the weight, but I have found that a diet that is moderate in carbohydrates - more precisely sugars has helped my significantly - also I make sure that I do exercise almost everyday, whilst also having days off to let my body recover.
I am also insulin resistant, my doctor put me on a drug called metformin which I believe together with my diet and exercise helped me to lose the weight I gained and keep it stable.

Lift heavy, moderate cardio, no processed foods. That includes worthers hard candy!

I am not a doctor or a nutritionist - but there is a weath of information here on these boards to recommend training regimes and nutrition - by and large there is not any difference between a classic BB protocol and a specific PCOS diet. Eat small, frequent meals. Protein in every meal. NO PROCESSED FOODS.

Feel free to PM me, I am a bit busy at the minute but I am happy to answer specific questions.

It is GREAT that you are so supportive - but she needs to know that there IS A WAY - it is not a life sentence in terms of health or weight or anything! NO EXCUSES! Life it too short.
