Protein Question
I have been taking Whey Protein (Optimum, 100%) after my workouts, but I have seen a lot of varying strategies on when to take it (pre-work, post-work, first thing in the morning, etc.). I would be interested in getting some other women's opinions and feedback on their results?

well its always good to have your protien after a workout to help repair your muscles but you should have it within an hour after your workout... having protien in the morning is good because that the first thing your body will obsorb so it gets to your muscles faster than lets say cereal... before a work out is also good but not needed because you will still need the after workout protien as well...
so basically morning and after a workout

I've generally heard it is good to include protein with every meal...
I think that using whey post-workout is the best time to use whey because it is the fastest absorbed by the body and so you need it most.
In the morning, sometimes it's hard to get a soild protein down... or it may just be inconvenient... so a combo of protein powder and a cereal grain, or a carb of your choice, may be a good option. Some people do whey in the morning, but I've found that using a protein complex, like the GNC 24 hour protein complex or the Synta 6 proteins, or (for me, becuase I have a 5 hour window between breakfast and "meal 2") even using casein or casien mixed with soy (egg protein and egg mixed with soy protein) provides me with the protein I need in a form that digests slowly enough to keep me full, provided I add a small serving of healthy fat to it!
So...
Post Work out: WHEY.
Morning: Protein of your choice
Throughout the day: Protein of your choice
Evening: Slow Digesting Protein, like egg or protein complex.. or if you must use whey, mix it with some fats (PB? Almond B?) to slow the digestion down and keep the insulin from spiking
I hope this helps!

what does the rest of your diet look like? What does a typical day, activity wise, look like for you?

I've noticed for me I get the best results when I have it after a workout and right before I go to bed and on non workout days its my first and last meal.

I know I should be spreading out my meals (and having more meals), but I am really getting 3 meals a day. I take after my workout, but my husband encourages me to use it in the morning also and to do a shake in the afternoon on work out days. I work out 3 to 4 times a week. 45 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weights.

As long as you spread it out you should be fine. I always feel better and have more energy when I have one in the morning. Unless you are using caesin protein(a slow digesting protein) there's no reason to have one specifically before bed....unless you just want it. I like to make myself a frozen shake at night just because it's yummy.
It seems your husband has given you some sound advice.
