I think the treadmill would be more versatile (walk, jog, run, sprint, walk backwards, incline etc) than a climber....

This is very true! If you don't plan on doing the O-lifts or variants which lead to dumping the bar then they would be a decent buy if you can get them for pennies on the dollar. They would be fine...
