I second the gun oil. I've used silicon spray, which is fine if there are no plastic parts. My gun oil smells like bubble gum but my silicon spray smells like arse.

A7 definitely has a point re the footplate. I use the footplate with my toes towards the top of the plate for most exercises, any lower and I only go partial range due to the knees coming too far...

Yeah, those look nasty to lift with. If you're not OCD and don't need a permanent fixed solution, try the grip pads, they'll deal with that nicely.

I bought the Megatec leg sled at the end of last year and can comment on it.
Apart from price, one big difference I can see between the hammer and the powertec you've listed though...

It's hard to say without seeing the handles - without the grip do they have sharp edges, or is the diameter painfully small?

However the best 'rubber pad-like' solution I can think of is grip...
