  • What do I do without a barbell (lower body)?

I'm in a situation where my current local gym doesn't have barbells, which is ridiculous. I could survive a few months till I go off to college. Still, I'm not liking the lack of quality lower body...

Help with a good routine for a bad gym

I haven't worked out in a while (~year), and I'm getting back to it. I checked around for a gym, and they (nearby YMCA and 24 hour Fitness) all are lacking for a serious lifter. They got a bunch of...

Well I didn't mean for the arms to be completely relaxed as hanging, because of course just gripping the bar will make the arms more stable and all. I was looking more for whether or not to shrug the...
  • Muscle imbalance; weak trapezius. Physical therapist giving weird info

That's what my physical therapist diagnosed me with. I screwed up my shoulder in wrestling in December and after quite a few visits to my general physician, he sent me to physical therapy. She didn't...

How are your arms in deadlifting?

I haven't lifted in awhile, but I plan to get back to it. Back when I did, I felt like I sorta just left my arms hanging with the weight during deadlifts. However, I don't think that is good.. I...
  • Wrestling this year; got some concerns about overtraining

Hey guys. I decided to join wrestling for my school this year. I was thinking about it, or football, since freshmen year, but never got to it. Well, I am now, went to some pre-season workouts, and...

Haven't lifted in awhile, I seem fine.

I haven't been lifting much or on a dedicated routine since last June or so. However, when I decided to tread the waters today at a weight room, I notice that my strength and size haven't gone down...

Sorry, but I don't really understand what you mean by "shirted". Care to explain?

I believe with what you say about overtraining, but a question came to me. So what would happen if you added too...

Sadly, it doesn't matter if you believe it or not. And it doesn't matter what your opinion is on the matter. There is this thing called science. You just don't know what you're talking about.
  • I don't fully understand how muscle fibers work

I get the basics. I have one question however.

Is there a resistance threshold that one must pass before the type II fast twitch fibers come in?

I expect most to say "yes". But this is where...

I must say the routine you posted does not look good to me. Like you said, it is quite the volume. Yet with all that, there are no deadlifts or squats. Instead, they add in a bunch of isolations and...

Dude, you're "routine" sucks. You're doing 24 isolation sets for your biceps a week? Not including the hits it gets from your back work. And nothing for the lower half of your body at all? Way too...

What do you consider high volume?

From my perspective, working sets per muscle group per week:

    Low : 1-5
    Medium: 6-12
    High: 13+

Of course there are many other factors, but I hope my general standpoint isn't too far off.

  • Why not do strength training and hypertrophy at the same time?

I must be missing something here.

When working on maximal strength and going at high intensity (85%+ 1RM), you will not be causing enough microtrauma for the muscles themselves to grow much; due...

It looks alright actually. I don't see "that" much isolations. It has the main compounds down, i.e. squat, bench, rows, etc. I don't know what a "high" row is either, but if its upright, don't do...
