Doesn't sound a like a bad idea; everyone is different though. Would help if you knew what your current body fat was. Bulking to 165 or so sounds ideal.
If you've never worked out before you should notice strength gains within a couple weeks. You should notice physique/aesthetic gains within a month or two.
