For squats, try subbing in leg presses and hack squats. For deads, as far as posterior chain, I imagine maybe movements like leg curls, rdl's, etc.

Once when I was a teenager a blacksnake somehow wrapped itself around our front door handle. Totally freaked my poor mom! Dad took care of it with a long stick.

I'd also think you'd need to really check how many calories you're taking in. My guess is you may need to up them to help in recovery plus providing energy for the runs.
