I have cut and bulked many times. For me, as long as I keep lifting and making advances in weight/reps I do in fact gain while on a cut just a lot slower than when I bulk.

Shake first thing then within an hour full meal.

I had issues with these as well. Took some time off and went back at it lighter.
I start out light and work up to heavy but not really heavy. I also wear cloth wristbands on my elbows to keep them...
