I think I put about 10 lbs of muscle on my frame for the last six years of training. I would be very happy to be able to put 30 lbs during my lifetime, but somehow I think is not going to happen.

I have also gave up on heavy weights for the last two years, and all my sets are above 20 reps to failure, while on the legs I go above 30 reps to failure.
To answer your question, start building muscle. This will also help you in the long run with the fat loss, the more muscle mass the higher your resting caloric expenditure.
You've been exercising for 9 months already and not seeing big muscle mass? Let me tell you, building muscle is like watching grass growing. Give it at least 3-4 serious years and talk later.
