When working with calves I try to switch up the angle of my feet on all of my raises, whether it be a seated machine, BB raises, BW on stairs etc. Hope this helps!

Lotion them, unscented will most likely be the best until the dryness goes down. Lotion regularly, after shower, before bed etc. Not too sure on the swelling.
