OP I agree, most people here preach a routine like SS 5x5 for beginners. I agree a good strength base can help, but if you want gains you should use a hypertrophy routine. glhf!

Carbs are carbs, if your super serious tho just track your macros. Its hard to hit macros if your downing calories from sugar drinks while having a low calorie intake.
Really get that squeeze and take your time with reps. Also like you mentioned, angles. I enjoy doing curls with a straight bar and then switch to the ez curl bar. Good luck m8
