Just measured my rack...it is about 49.4 inches wide. There is about 1.5" of play on each side with my Olympic bar. Never had an issue. This is the newer rack with the square safeties and J-hooks.

Get the Body Solid GPR378. It costs $489 shipped. Much better deal than the $550 Powertec now wants for their power rack.

I went to this store last month. They had a tiny showroom with a rack and a smith machine. Also a bunch of accessories. However it appears they moved to a new location so perhaps it is different...

I have the SuperBench and it is great. However the $200 deal on the GFID31 is very good. Not sure I would spend $200 more for the Superbench if I was in your shoes.
