I trained at my local LA for 12 years and never had the dumbbell issue, but my friend in another state sent me pics very similar to what you're seeing. I wouldn't be able to deal with it personally.

Rows in the smith has been my staple for a couple years. Can go heavy and still maintain something that resembles good form.

Check out school lunch programs. As long as grades 9 - 12 are served a minimum of 10 - 12oz of protein a WEEK everything checks out fine.
