    I don't have grips, but my gym has a machine that does the same motion. I can do about 12 at 120lbs (both hands at the same time). I have no idea whether that is good or bad.

    It may be that you have to much bounce (up/down)...

    It may be that you have to much bounce (up/down) in your stride. If you smooth it out, there will be less impact and relieve some of the stress on your joints (ankle).
