IMO the most important criteria is the handle spacing.
My first hex bar had the handles on 740mm (~29 inches) centers, and was near useless.
I think it's important to have as much variation as possible, in both the weight and diameter of the handles.
This causes maximum muscle confusion and forces me to engage my stabilizer muscles.
In response to the question posed in the title of this thread, the answer is an emphatic "yes".
