Better than nothing. You can sure use the smith machine for many exercises. It may not be as "great" as having a bench/squat rack, but i've gotten a couple of good shoulder presses in, and shrugs...
Protein is protein! I love beef, certainly pick it over chicken. Korean bbq beef, steak.
pulled pork is good too. but i prefer beef over pork. Anything meaty and saucy
