I will take the majority advice and get a German shepherd for my first dog.

to be honest another problem with the American bull dogs is the price. Where I live they sell for 4x the price of a shepherd.

what advantage do labs have over shepherds? especially that they're around the same size. Husky's look pretty thuggish too, but I heard they're too aggressive/strong minded.
