No, you could try wrist/ankle weights around the bar as a cheap option to plates, the bigger tesco stores argos etc should have them, you can adjust the weight on some of them from around 200/300g up...

I have a pair of those collars, mine weigh 500 grams each and come in handy all the time as an extra weight.
