Fail at the end of the set doesn't mean heavy to me. If I can do 10-12 reps even though I am about ready to die on the 12th rep doesn't mean I went heavy,.
Sure if you are 21 but you are in the over 35 group. Everyone is different but for me training 6 times a week hard would be too much. Sure if I go to the gym lift light weight for high reps maybe but...
I started 5/3/1 3 weeks ago as well but I am having a hard time as it seems a bit easy at this point... But I keep telling my self that it will get harder.
